The Legal Systems and Tribunal Liaison Section is the department's key liaison point with the Migration and Refugee Division (MRD) of the Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT) and the Immigration Assessment Authority (IAA).
The successful candidate will work in the Tribunal Liaison team and will be responsible for providing support to departmental staff, the MRD and the IAA in matters relating to merits review. The Team Leader reports to the Assistant Director and will oversee the day-to-day functions of the section. Applicants will have a strong work ethic and will see work through to completion.

- Demonstrated ability to use judgement and resolve sensitive issues
- Familiarity with visa processing and legislative and policy frameworks governing merits review
- Demonstrated ability to problem solve, exercise initiative and think outside the box
- Working knowledge of departmental systems (including ICSE and TRIM), or the ability to quickly develop an understanding of these systems
Duties and responsibilities
- Supervise, mentor and lead a small team, while maintaining team cohesion in a fast-paced and complex environment
- Plan and achieve section work goals in accordance with established priorities, manage workflows and undertake quality assurance to achieve agreed outputs
- Contribute to branch or sectional projects, including strategic planning, stakeholder management and various reporting activities
- Provide high-level support to the Department, AAT and various other stakeholders
- Coordinate and host high-level meetings and manage sensitive and complex enquiries.

Eligibility
To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.
The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (AGSVA) security clearance and an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
