As part of the GHD Northern Australia Environment Team (based in Darwin) you will be connected to a global network of passionate environmental scientists, engineers, planners, and professionals with diverse technical and cultural backgrounds. We work collaboratively with our clients to facilitate sustainable developments in future energy, water infrastructure, linear infrastructure, mining (including closure planning) and Defence operations.
Our successful and growing Northern Australia Environment Team works across fields including terrestrial, freshwater and marine ecology, environmental impact assessment and planning, contaminated land assessment, management and remediation, sustainability, and waste management.
We are seeking another experienced senior environmental scientist and/or Technical Director to join our Darwin-based team. The role will see you travelling across the Top End throughout beautiful scenery and tourist attractions and working to protect the values of a truly unique social and cultural landscape during an exciting time of major economic growth. We are looking for someone who is technically excellent, and who is keen to flex their leadership skills in the technical space through mentoring and development of more junior team members.
This varied and exciting role will see you involved with:
Interpreting, developing and advising clients on International, National and State/Territory environmental legislation and policy, including provision of advice and direction regarding relevant regulatory frameworks and project approval pathways
Identifying, assessing, and monitoring environmental values including threatened ecosystems, threatened species, terrestrial and aquatic environmental quality, etc. Undertaking environmental impact assessments, construction environmental management, operational phase monitoring and development of offsets and approvals strategies
Designing and implementing environmental data collection and field surveys throughout the beautiful Top End of the NT and North Queensland
Coordination of technical studies
Work within multi-disciplinary project teams
Maintaining relationships with clients and regulatory agencies, and leading the delivery of proposals and technical reports for clients
Managing and delivering projects on time and within budget and to required quality standards
Assisting in mentoring and training of junior staff.
What would you bring to the team?
Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Environmental Science or similar
Minimum of 10 years professional experience in environmental and impact assessments
Minimum of 2 years in a similar role at the Senior/Technical Director level
Demonstrated track record in the planning, coordination and delivery of effective environmental assessment, monitoring, evaluation and reporting
Knowledge of NT and Commonwealth regulatory frameworks and policy with respect to listed matters, offsetting and management
Excellent technical writing, communication and project management skills
The ability to mentor, grow and develop junior team members to continue the successful growth of the team
Proven business development, networking and client relationship management skills
