About the Role

Flinders University is proud to offer entire Geospatial Science programs utilising cutting-edge technologies and strong community, industry, and government links. To support rapid student growth in GIS and the new Surveying degree, we are now seeking a highly skilled and innovative Technical Field Officer (Surveying) to aid the delivery of technical services for a diverse range of teaching and research priorities.

As the Technical Field Officer (Surveying), you will provide quality support to staff and students by overseeing the day-to-day running of the field store in conjunction with other discipline specialists. You will be responsible for the preparation, maintenance and calibration of surveying equipment, organisation and maintenance of software required for processing field data collected to a standard suitable for importation of data into geospatial data bases. You will also provide support for our rapidly growing drone program.

You will also be accounted for:

  • Organising, commissioning, calibrating, and documenting specialised field equipment.
  • Preparing surveying and other field equipment for teaching practical work and provide in field support for field trips.
  • Reviewing and recommending purchase / renewal of software for the processing of field data including reduction of surveying measurements

About You
As a geospatial discipline specialist, you will have extensive industry experience in the collection of field observations and their post-processing. Your communication and customer service skills will be the key to your success, as you demonstrate the ability to liaise with a broad range of staff and students and collaborate effectively in a team environment.

As the successful Technical Field Officer (Surveying), you will also demonstrate:

  • An Advanced Diploma in Surveying or equivalent qualification and specialist expertise.
  • Sound experience with surveying field equipment in detail, control, engineering and other surveys.
  • Proficiency with the use of surveying and other geospatial software.
  • Experience of geospatial databases (ESRI) and their use in modern organisations would be an advantage.
  • Having a Remote Pilot License would also be an advantage.
