TerraCulture Pty Ltd are Heritage Consultants looking for an experienced full-time Technical Illustrator, with an emphasis on digitising archaeological field drawings, to join our team. Our office is located in Northcote but we engage in projects across Victoria which may require travel and fieldwork.
Our company specialises in historical and Aboriginal archaeology. We are seeking someone with experience in some or all of the following:
- Digitising field records and plans using Adobe Illustrator or other Adobe programs (mandatory)
- Preparation of images and illustrations for reports
- Mapping
- Artefact photography
- Archaeological planning (especially in the context of 19th century historic sites)
- Photogrammetry
- Archival photography
This work would be largely autonomous and self-guided, although you would receive direction on which tasks are required for various projects. This would involve planning, designing, developing, and preparing pictures and diagrams to communicate messages, clarify meaning, and assist with presentations using traditional and digital media such as drawing, photography, and image capture and manipulation software.
Experience managing heritage interpretation design projects would be beneficial.
Your day-to-day tasks would include:
- Determining the objectives and constraints of the design brief by consulting with clients, stakeholders, and other staff as necessary;
- Undertaking research and analysing functional communication requirements;
- Formulating design concepts for the subject to be communicated;
- Preparing sketches, diagrams, illustrations and layouts to communicate design concepts;
- Selecting, specifying or recommending functional and aesthetic materials and media for publication, delivery or display;
- Detailing and documenting the selected design for production;
- Supervising or carrying out production in the chosen media; and
- Possibly archiving information for future client use.
Our ideal candidate will meet the following requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a relevant field (or 5 years of experience in substitute of formal qualification) plus 2 years of industry experience.
- Experience working as a Technical Illustrator or archaeological planner on historical excavations and construction sites.
- Familiarity with stone artefacts and 19th century historical collections.
- High competency in MS Office Suite, Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
- Ability to work independently.
- White card.
- Current driver’s licence.
