Technical Officer role is to provide a high standard of technical support to the teaching and research programs of the school to ensure that the practical programs are delivered in an efficient manner and that expertise can be provided to assist research staff and students.As a
Technical Officer, you will:
- Consult with available sources to gather relevant technical information and seek the expertise and advice of other people as appropriate, to provide technical and research support to practical teaching and research programs of the School, specifically in the Environmental Science and related disciplines to ensure classes and field related activities run smoothly
- Promotion and application of Occupational Health and Safety standards across the School work environments especially those involving field-based and laboratory research and teaching activities
- Coordinate on a day-to-day basis, within the designated area of responsibility, materials and equipment requirements of staff and students for the running of practical teaching classes and field trips within the specified disciplines of expertise
- Maintain stock control procedures in conjunction with the Senior Technical Officer on an ongoing basis
- Trial new experiments and modify existing experiments to ensure the optimal smooth running of practicals within the designated area of responsibility
To be successful, you'll have:
- Completion of a Bachelor Degree in Science with majors in a suitable Environmental Science without subsequent relevant work experience; or
- Completion of an Associate Diploma and at least two years subsequent relevant work experience; or
- An equivalent combination of relevant experience in life sciences and/or education/training in Environmental Sciences
- Good knowledge of OH&S principles and an understanding of the requirements for safety when working with biological and chemical hazards
