A newly created role, we have an exciting opportunity to join the Faculty of Sciences, Engineering and Technology in a Technical Officer position providing technical support to academic and professional staff involved in lab and fleet and field activities (such as first aid management and emergency equipment).
You'll join the Technical Services Team, dedicated to providing exceptional support to students, academics, and researchers to enhance education and research outcomes. Working closely with academics, professional teams, and the Infrastructure Branch, the Technical Services Team ensures the efficient use of teaching, office, workshop, and laboratory spaces. Committed to Health, Safety, and Wellbeing (HSW) values, the team ensures the safe operations of labs and workshops within the Faculty.
The Technical Officer oversees compliance in the areas of first aid, chemical storage, fleet/field operations, and goods receiving across all Faculty Campuses. Responsibilities include maintaining precise records of first aid registers conducting chemical store audits, and overseeing fleet maintenance to ensure adherence to Health, Safety, and Wellbeing standards and legislative requirements.
This role will engage across all University campuses, and you will be required to travel to each of these sites regularly
To be successful you will need: * Knowledge of HSW and safety management with demonstrated experience in the application of these in teaching/research environment

  • Knowledge of first aid compliance, fleet and field management.
  • Demonstrated experience in the establishment and maintenance of registers to achieve compliance.
  • Experience in, chemical handling and waste disposal processes.
  • Experience with developing RA, SOP, planning and scheduling routine maintenance, and liaising with contractors for the provision of services.
  • Ability to plan, prioritise and coordinate individual and teamwork activities to achieve goals and meet deadlines in a complex environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote the organisational values of integrity, respect, collegiality, excellence and discovery, and a commitment to positively comply with the associated behaviour expectations.
