About You

You are a skilled Technical Officer with knowledge in Microbiology and Immunology. You are passionate about providing quality customer service and take initiative to deliver positive results. You possess clear communication and follow reasonable instructions, work procedures and practices to maintain the health and safety of yourself and others.

About the Role

Reporting to the Team Leader: Diagnostic Laboratory, you will be responsible for providing technical, operational and administrative support to facilitate the day-to-day operations within the Microbiology/Immunology laboratories. You will also be responsible for providing advice to academic staff and students to ensure best practice procedures and systems are followed.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Tertiary qualification(s) in a relevant field and/or extensive knowledge and experience in coordinating, operating and maintaining microbiological laboratories and PC2 facilities
  • Knowledge and/or experience in the fields of food and clinical microbiology, molecular food microbiology and immunology
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with internal and external stakeholders at varying professional and academic levels, from diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Demonstrated high level organisational skills and experience in work planning, research and analytical skills and prioritising to meet deadlines, often with competing demands in a complex team environment
  • Demonstrated initiative and enthusiasm for the provision of quality customer service along with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of the Work Health and Safety legislation and risk assessment strategies for the control of hazards, waste disposal (biological, chemical, GMO), equipment use, within teaching and research laboratories
  • Demonstrated experience in maintaining quality systems and participation in a continuous business and safety improvement processes
