Canberra’s urban forest comprises a diverse combination of evergreen and deciduous trees that provides important ecological and amenity advantages for its inhabitants and wildlife. We take pride in maintaining our urban forest and you will play an important role in delivering this service to ensure the biodiversity and natural beauty of our city is preserved.
URBAN TREESCAPES manages and maintains more than 823,500 trees on parklands and streets throughout ACT. Specific responsibilities include the planting, watering, and follow up maintenance of newly planted trees; the maintenance of established trees; the removal of dead and dying trees; the administration of the Urban Forest Act 2023; the assessment of tree related claims; and the provision of technical advice on tree related matters.
Applications are invited to fill a full-time, temporary vacancy for the role of Technical Officer, Programs available immediately for up to six months with the possibility of extension up to 12 months and/or permanency.
The Technical Officer Programs will work within a small team that plans and manages tree planting, tree removal, and maintenance activities. The role is responsible for assisting with the development, administration, and delivery of Urban Treescapes programs. The role may also involve leadership of a small team of workers and will include responsibility for carrying out site specific risk assessments and ensuring crews work safely, the allocation of plant and equipment for jobs, record keeping and reporting, and carrying out audits as required. This position will be based in Dickson but will require regular field work throughout Canberra’s urban open space.
The successful applicant will have extensive knowledge and experience in urban tree management as well as strong communication and organisational skills.
