We are looking for a capable and detail-focused Technical Officer -Stack Testing & Monitoring who will be responsible for the collection and processing of environmental monitoring data and equipment maintenance.
This is an excellent role for someone with exceptional attention to detail, who enjoys collaborating with a variety of stakeholders and working with different teams. This role requires you to be able to safely work across sites and ensure that monitoring is safely completed as per schedule.

Reporting to the Superintendent- Environment and working in a diverse team within the Health, Safety, and Environment Team, you will:
- Implement, maintain, and complete environmental monitoring and measurement to demonstrate compliance with the environmental licence. This includes routine emissions monitoring of stacks and release points.
- Collecting environmental samples and monitoring data
- Maintaining equipment including servicing and calibrations
- Co-ordinate land management activities such as inspections, weed management and controlled burns of the buffer zone,
- Engaging with multiple departments for monitoring and sampling requirements
- Entering monitoring results and maintenance of database/s
- Assist in the assessment of compliance with environmental licence conditions through inspection of work areas to monitor the effectiveness of controls and provide advice on incident response and ensure incidents are closed out as directed
- Reviewing data trends and contribute to continual improvement of the implementation of monitoring systems
- Experience with Stack Testing and environmental monitoring

- Hands-on skills with equipment repairs, servicing, and maintenance
- Ability to plan work and execute as per schedule.
- Proven capability to work in hot areas and outdoors.
- Data handling and entry experience
- Sound MS Office suite, literacy, and numeracy
- Enjoys working collaboratively and interacting with different teams across site
- Capability to organise and seek information utilising your resources and network
- Trade or operational background with demonstrated practical ‘can do’
- Demonstrated experience and qualifications in environmental monitoring
- Previous experience working at a Aluminium Smelter

Where you’ll be working
Boyne Smelters Limited is Australia’s second largest aluminium smelter with a 1,000-person strong workforce. Located approximately 20km south east of Gladstone at Boyne Island on the Central Queensland coast, BSL produces around 500,000 tonnes of aluminium per annum.
Activities at BSL include manufacturing carbon anodes in the carbon plant, aluminium production (smelting) in reduction lines, and casting of molten material into aluminium products ready to ship. The smelter is connected via a conveyor belt to the Queensland Alumina Limited refinery for the supply of alumina.
