My client is a highly productive mid-tier mining house that owns and operates several well-established base and precious metal mining operations in AU. With recent acquisitions and a promising pipeline of future projects in the metalliferous scene, my client is going from strength to strength. An exciting time to join and be part of the organisation.
The Opportunity
They are looking to appoint a Technical Services Manager at their flagship underground copper mine in Central NSW. The mining operation itself has 8 - 10 years of mine life and a number of projects in the pipeline to further extend. It is predominantly sub-level open stope mining, with cemented paste fill.
The position can be FIFO Brisbane or Sydney (Brisbane preferred, but Sydney is an option too) on an 8/6 roster. Additionally, should the preferred candidate look to be DIDO or Residential, a 5/2/4/3 roster can be implemented.
The Technical Services Manager will have 6 direct reports. In total there’s 27 people in the tech services team. It is not a production/operations management position (that is the role of the GM and Mine Manager on site). It is purely focused on leading, enabling and guiding the tech services department through ongoing mining operations, extensions, and expansions (hint: including a new open pit mine).
Responsibilities
- Oversee the planning and design of mining operations, including the layout of underground workings, ventilation systems, and ore extraction methods,
- Work to optimise the productivity and efficiency of mining operations. This includes monitoring production rates, identifying bottlenecks, and implementing strategies to improve performance,
- Safety and regulatory compliance: Ensuring compliance with safety regulations and environmental standards is a crucial aspect of the role,
- Provide technical support to mining engineers, geologists, and other staff involved in underground mining operations. This may involve troubleshooting technical issues, providing guidance on mining methods, or conducting training sessions,
- Manage the budget for Technical Services within the mine. This includes forecasting costs, tracking expenses, and identifying opportunities to reduce spending while maintaining productivity and safety standards.
- Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering, Geoscience, Survey, or something similar/relevant,
- Established leadership experience in underground hard rock tech services (operations),
- Sound knowledge in sub-level and long-hole open stoping mining methods,
- Open pit design and planning experience would be held in high regard too (due to future mine projects in the pipeline),
- Must live/work/reside in AU. Must have full working AU rights.
My client offers gold-standard employment and working conditions, with the full backing of the company and direct manager to this role.
An attractive salary package will be on offer for the right candidate (and ultimately, is tailored/negotiated to the successfully appointed candidates' experience/skill level).
