The Role & Key Elements

We are currently seeking a self-motivated, goal-driven person who prides themselves on results and getting things done ‘right the first time’. You will become a valuable member within the technical team and will report to the Technical Director.

You will be required to travel for installation and service work for customers in remote or offshore locations. Both interstate and international travel may be required.

This position requires a “hands on” approach, with aptitude in mechanical and communication/electrical systems. A passion for learning is a must, as is the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. 

Your Primary responsibilities will involve, but will not be limited to the following:

  • Perform installation and servicing of communications equipment in both the land and maritime sectors. This will involve installations on vehicles, boats, or fixed buildings as required. 
  • Assist with pre-installation configuration and testing of communications and networking equipment.
  • Maintenance and management of communication equipment spares
  • Be part of a team to provide after sales service and support to our customers.
  • Create and maintain detailed documentation of installations performed, to create a record for customer service and continuity of maintenance requirements.
  • Job sheets and time sheets submitted on completion of each installation/job, to enable customer invoicing.

Secondary Responsibilities will include

  • Mechanical and civil works support for technical team when required.
  • Provide practical hands-on support to other members of the technical team as required.

It is extremely important that our staff properly document systems and support, and this should be a substantive part of your daily activities.

Other responsibilities of this position include:

  • Maintaining a clean well organised office and workshop area.
  • Answering the telephone when it rings in your work area.
  • Provide good quality service to both internal and external customers.
  • Following up on colleagues / supplier when required i.e., not waiting for them to come to you.
  • When given a task, following it through to the end to ensure it is completed.
  • Maintaining efficient record keeping in the company electronic systems to enable good customer and supplier records are kept for invoicing, stock control and good customer relationship building.
  • Maintaining a diary of weekly / monthly events and where hours spent to help improve general workflows and office efficiency.
  • Follow ISO Procedures in your department:
    • We are ISO9001:2015 Quality Management Accredited, all procedures are recorded and must be followed.
    • Initiate new and review existing procedures within the department to ensure a smooth-running efficient business. 
    • Replicate and utilise ISO documents and procedures within your department in association with other staff and team members for the smooth running of the whole business.

This role is likely to evolve over time as you become more familiar with AST and our Customers requirements, so a positive can do attitude is a must.
