U&T Infotech currently seeking qualified Telecommunication cable haulers and fibre optic cable splicers to be part of our field engineering growth strategy due to recent increased demand from our telecom clients.
Roles & Responsibilities:
• The role is focused on field related Telecommunication works that includes, cable hauling, installation, splicing, testing and equipment/device connections.
• Responsible for telecommunications fieldwork that includes fibre hauling and cabling.
• Inspection of the cable routes, ducts and conduits through rod & roping for designated routes.
• Interpret the network design drawings (AutoCAD, SpatialNET and MapInfo files) and specifications to prepare the cabling works.
• Determine the location of the cable connections from Pit to customer premises and connect the cables as per designs.
• Installation of fibre optic cables and splicing (jointing).
• Perform the fibre cable splicing works including, stripping, cleaning, cleaving, splicing through heat shrinking, post-splicing signal checks through the splicing machines.
• Testing of the fibre optic cable continuity through the power and BERT meters for completeness of the signals.
• Connect GPON splitters and patch cords that are located inside the pits.
• Performing the cabling and connection works related to Distributed Antenna System (DAS) antennas for Macro and Small cells.
• Record the readings and post-installation observations.
Required Qualifications:
• Educational qualification – Cert IV or Diploma in Telecommunications.
• Relevant field experience in survey, rod & roping, hauling and splicing including, basic to medium range understanding of Telstra, Optus and nbn outside plant (desirables but not mandatory as training is provided to the right candidate)
• Previous experience in Pipe proving/scoping for cable install.
• We seek an individual with demonstrated knowledge and experience with an understanding of cable hauling and splicing works.
• The candidate is required to work as part of the field crews and sometimes deliver the assigned tasks independently.
• Should have passion to learn and deliver the allocated tasks within the timelines with highest first-time success rates to avoid multiple site visits.
The candidate will also need to demonstrate and possess the following:
• Must have prior experience in field related telecommunications type of works
• Be physically fit and willing to work outdoors and indoors of single and multi-dwellings (as required)
• A current and valid Australian Drivers Licence (mandatory)
• Construction industry white card (mandatory)
• NBN enAble induction
• Asbestos awareness training
• Traffic Management certification (desirable, not mandatory)
• Current First Aid/CPR certification (desirable, not mandatory)
• Confined space/Gas test accreditation (desirable, not mandatory).
