About the Role
- Project Location - Lagifu Ridge, Southern Highlands PNG
- Field Based; 28 days on /28 days off rotational pattern within PNG

Reporting to the Telecommunications Coordinator, the Telecommunications Technician is responsible for the prompt maintenance and installation of all OSL Telecommunications, Data and Telemetry systems, in support of Oil Search’s Field Operations. This position ensures that through tools such as the helpdesk system, change control, Service Level Agreements (SLA) and Quality Assurance systems that the individual delivers/provides a high level of service to clients.
Key responsibilities of the role include:
- Maintenance and repair of OSL Telecommunications, Data, Telemetry, Export, Marine Terminal and ancillary support facilities.
- Liaison with customers locally and internationally on maintenance activities.
- Ensure supervisors are updated with critical problems or factors that could adversely impact safety, the environment, and production/export activities.
- Maintain the Telecommunication’s Remote Tower sites which include but is not limited to maintenance and installation of DC Battery banks, solar panels, generators, antennas and communication equipment at each site.
- Ensuring individuals are capable and competent of working at heights on radio equipment.
- Install, maintain and repair Satellite systems and Fibre Optic transmission systems.
- Log all faults and requests in the Service Now tool with sufficient detail for later analysis.
- Assist with the compliance of all applicable governmental rules and regulations of PNG.
- Attend training and development activities that may include on the job training, computer based training and other formal classroom-based training.
- Determination of strategies for rectifying system faults/repairs
- All operational decisions are consistent with agreed plans, policy, systems and procedures.
- Raise Issues that may affect the wider organisation to the Operations Support Superintendent or relevant discipline lead for assessment.
- Conduct inquiries for the purchase and/or replacement of materials and equipment
- Support all financial, contractual or resource commitments beyond authorised level or without budget.
- Responsible for the implementation and detail of “Change Control” for outages, system upgrades and modifications
- Responsible for “Fit for purpose” solution designs within the PNG asset and corporate framework
- Ensure a focus on Safety in line with Oil Search HSES policy (stop, mandatory safety training, Step back 5 x 5, JHA, permit to work, safety meetings etc.)
About You
- Degree/Diploma of Electronic Engineering or Completion of Trade Certificate with a minimum of 5 years’ experience within the telecommunications industry.
- Possess a ACMA Telecommunications Cabling License
- Experience with maintaining telecommunication systems including Microwave (Ericsson, RAD), Telephony (Ericsson, Cisco), Satellite Technologies VHF Radio Systems, Solar/DC systems, Fibre Optic & Copper Systems, Multiplexers and LAN.
- Computer skills with proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite.
- Commitment to incident free operations and HSES excellence.
- Willingness to be vaccinated or currently hold a recognised Vaccination Card
