About the Operating Suite:
The Perioperative, Surgery and Endoscopy Services on Austin campus includes 11 Operating rooms, 2 Procedure rooms, 2 Endoscopy rooms, a Recovery unit with high-dependency patient facilities, and a Surgery and Endoscopy Centre. The acute service for emergency surgery is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and the elective service operates Monday to Friday only. We have a strong commitment to professional support and education of staff and continuously ensuring our patients receive excellence in care at all times.
About the role:
As a Grade 5 (IN 11) Operating Theatre Technician at Austin Health you will contribute to an environment of multidisciplinary teamwork, maintaining a flexible approach to working in all specialised areas of the operating suite.
You’ll generally work four 10-hour work days each week, covering a variety of day, night and/or weekend shifts as agreed. There may also be the opportunity to work additional shifts, attracting additional payment.
A regular day will see you:
Ensure all aspects of OH&S and infection control principles are adhered to and integrated into all work practices
Test, use and maintain equipment and technology that is required for surgery and which fall within the technician's responsibility
Prepare and maintain the operating room environment to ensure safe and efficient operating during surgery and subsequent procedures
Assist technicians in other operating rooms as required
About you:
You will be someone with excellent communication skills and a sound understanding of computer applications. You’ll enjoy undertaking further education, to develop your knowledge in your chosen field.
You’ll further have:
A Certificate 3 or 4 in Health Care (Theatre Technician)
A minimum of 3 years’ experience as an operating theatre technician
The ability to work effectively in a team environment
The ability to problem solve in a variety of situations
