About the role:
The Therapeutic Specialist will act as a specialist therapeutic consultant and practitioner within the therapeutic residential care program. They will form a key part of the care team developed for each child in the program. You will provide specialist therapeutic support to the carers and other members of the care team, facilitate reflective practice, and deliver specialised training about trauma and therapeutic care to professionals and carers.
There will also be direct therapeutic work with children where appropriate. The role has a clinical leadership focus with regard to the development and implementation of appropriate therapeutic support for children and young people within their particular care setting and works closely with professionals and carers to develop trauma-informed therapeutic approaches to support children and young people recovering from trauma.
Selection Criteria:
- A relevant tertiary qualification such as Social Work, Psychology, Social Science, or Counselling and relevant experience to this role.
- An understanding of the developmental needs of children and young people, with an ability to apply this knowledge effectively when providing therapeutic support.
- Highly developed communication skills and demonstrated ability to provide leadership and direct service in the clinical assessment and treatment of children, young people, and families.
- Highly developed ability to provide secondary consultation and advice to other professionals.
- Demonstrated knowledge of trauma, attachment and neurobiology frameworks and theories.
- Extensive knowledge of family violence and child protection and relevant legislation including MARAM
