There are multiple positions. In addition to full time roles, we offer part time and casual roles for people looking for flexibility in their working lives.Guides are the public face of Australian Parliament House (APH), providing a welcoming experience to local, interstate and international visitors; school students; and visiting dignitaries and officials.Our Guides deliver engaging tours and other interpretation programs to support the work of the Australian Parliament and enhance its status as an iconic building and location of national significance. Face to face interpretation plays a central role in the visitor experience at Parliament House and a guided tour is consistently rated as one of the most valued programs for visitors to Parliament House.Who we are looking forOur ideal candidates will have a passion for and some experience in customer service, with confident verbal and interpersonal communication skills, and an interest in at least one of the relevant subject areas (politics, history, art, architecture).Previous experience as a Tour Guide is not required because we offer a program of training and coaching to acquire skills and help you excel in your role.   • The successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline security clearance as well as a current working with vulnerable people card (WWVP)
  • There will be walking and standing on a variety of surfaces
  • Staff will be required to deliver tours and interpretation
  • There are a variety of work options that successful applicants may be offered including Fulltime (37.5 hours per week) Part-time, or casual roles. Flexible shift times are available to support family or study responsibilities.
  • The successful applicant will also work on a roster where weekend, public holidays and some after-hours work may be required
  • Willingness to wear a uniform
  • Use of voice amplification equipment for some aspects of the role will be required
  • Employees must pass a medical prior to commencing work
  • The position requires walking and standing on a range of surfaces. It also requires talking and interacting with the public and building occupants for extended periods.
  • The successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (Protected/Restricted) security clearance.

The duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:1. Deliver a high standard of engaging tours to a diverse range of visitors, including school groups, building occupants and international delegations.
2. Provide high quality customer service to all visitors and building occupants at Australian Parliament House.
3. Support the Visitor Engagement team to ensure all visitors and building occupants are provided with a high standard across all service points, including tours, cloaking services, and visitor information.
4. Support the strategic direction for Visitor Engagement, as part of the overall strategy of the Parliamentary Engagement Branch.
5. As part of a team, participate in learning and professional development programs to enrich your knowledge and develop skills.
6. SalaryCurrently, the salary range for this position is $66,440 - $71,327 per annum.Conditions of EmploymentEmployment opportunities at Department of Parliamentary Services are subject to a range of conditions prescribed in the Parliamentary Service Act 1999 which include:
  • Australian citizenship - to be eligible for employment with DPS, applicants must be an Australian Citizen.
  • Security clearance and character clearance - the preferred applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a security clearance at the level specified, as well as complete and be deemed suitable through a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check.
  • Health assessment - a pre-employment health assessment will be required where there are physical or medical requirements for the role.
