Job description

Racing Victoria (RV) is one of Australia’s leading sporting organisations, and the independent governing body of thoroughbred racing in Victoria. We develop, promote and manage the conduct of thoroughbred racing in Victoria. This responsibility includes ensuring the industry has access to skilled and trained workers. Part of our strategy involves ensuring a pipeline of skilled track riders.

The Opportunity:

Reporting to the Manager, Workforce Capability and joining a small team of workforce trainers, this role will contribute to the sustainability of our industry through delivering training to aspiring and existing track riders in an ‘off the job’ environment.

If you are/have been a trainer in trackwork riding; are a track work rider or jockey with a current certificate in training and assessing, and are interested in educating our future track work riders we’d like to hear from you.

Critical to the success of a person in this role is horse handling experience with a commitment to horse health and welfare, the ability to instruct, educate and communicate with individuals with all levels of ability and skill in track work riding.

The ability of the person to ride to demonstrate to the learners and assist with the ongoing education of horses used for training would also be highly valued.

There may also be the opportunity to assist RV Jockey Coaches in our Rider Squad Development Program.

Key responsibilities include:

· Deliver Nationally recognised training and education relevant to stable employees and track work rider qualifications

· Develop and review training and education resources and assessments

· Conduct assessments

· Administration and record keeping related to conducting and delivering of training

· Liaise with RTO’s on enrolments, compliance and student completion of training

· Monitoring and managing the health and welfare of horses used during training

· Promoting and ensuring a safe training environment for all learners

Candidate requirements:

· Current Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, TAE40116 or superseded TAE qualification (underaking to upgrade units)

· Completion of Certificate II, III or IV in Racing or Equine Studies or individual units included in those qualifications.

· Working With Children Check

· Previous experience in the delivery of VET qualifications preferably in Racing or Equine Qualifications

· Experience and confidence to deliver practical training handling horses to a wide-ranging cohort of students

· The ability to ride and assist with the ongoing education of horses used for training would also be highly valued but not essential.

· Current Victorian driver’s license

· Ability to conduct training at venues throughout Victoria and stay overnight

· Knowledge of the vocational training system

· Ability to work as collaborative team member
