Where you'll be workingYou will be working in our dynamic Emergency Network 4 sites which include: John Hunter Hospital, The Maitland Hospital, Calvary Mater Newcastle, Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital, Port Macquarie Base Hospital. These sites offer fantastic metropolitan and rural experiences in Emergency Medicine and speciality terms for both our Unaccredited and ACEM Trainees.
What you'll be doingThe primary purpose of an Unaccredited Trainee in Emergency Medicine is to provide high quality medical care under appropriate supervision to undifferentiated patients presenting to the Emergency Department.
Our Emergency Medicine Network sites have full accreditation and meet the requirements for Training with the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (ACEM). We currently have a 100% pass rate for our Fellowship exam sitters and 80% for Primary exam sitters and provide excellent ACEM curriculum Education and Training and examination preparedness. Along with our strong Emergency Medicine Training program we have an excellent Simulation Centre that our FACEMS are very invested in and open for Unaccredited Trainees to take the opportunity to attend some innovated training sessions.
As an Unaccredited Trainee you have the ability to complete the Emergency Medicine Certificate (6 months) and Emergency Medicine Diploma (12 months) and the new Emergency Medicine Advanced Diploma (18months) under ACEM. Our District also offers an exceptional Hospital Skills Program and Work Based Assessment Program.
Unaccredited Trainees work under a level of supervision according to their competence in the following activities: Communicating assessment and management decisions to other staff involved in the patient’s care. Communicating with the patient / family regarding the patient’s condition and management plans. Coordinating diagnostic tests and consultations with other medical specialists. Arranging the patient discharge process and liaising with local medical officers and community-based care modalities for optimal post discharge care.

Contracts of up to two years duration are offered.
- Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently in a supervised environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team with an understanding of the roles of the doctor and other members of the healthcare team.
- Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills and ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with patients, family members and other members of the health care team.

- Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management.
- Evidence of continuing professional development and commitment to self-education.
