About The Role:
The Plant Trainer and Assessor is based with Norton’s Processing operations. The role is required to train and assess employees, contractors and visitors on a variety of site specific duties. These may include (but are not limited to); site specific inductions, LV assessments, machinery and equipment assessments, education and implementation of operating procedures and relevant industry related information.
The Trainer Coordinator is responsible for ensuring training and safety procedures are compliant to the national, corporate and legislative standards and the implementation of a skills base program to the Plant Operations department while ensuring safe, productive operation.
Key Duties and Tasks:
- Ensure all personnel receive the correct induction and training for their work area and are aware of all workplace rules and critical procedures applicable at Norton’s operations.
- Assist in the review of the induction and training programs of all personnel at the Processing sites
- Actively contribute to the development of new and review of existing safety policies, procedures, new initiatives and implement change as directed by the management team
- Provide feedback on personnel assessments to the Plant Training Coordinator, relevant Processing Superintendent and/or Manager.
- Provide expert advice to internal stakeholders in relation to legal obligations, policies, systems and procedures.
- Assist to ensure that all relevant reports, documentation and plans are developed, reviewed, approved and submitted to meet the obligations under the relevant legislation and government policies.
- Assist with the development, implementation and review of applicable policies, procedures and risk management plans.
- Work closely with all departments to ensure competency assessment and development is ongoing to meet all statutory and business requirements and targets.
- Continually monitor and manage training requirements of all operators to ensure skills requirements are met;
- Communicate changes in safety procedures to employees to ensure clear understanding;
- Maintain detailed and accurate record keeping of all training, inductions and assessments conducted, along with any other relevant documents where required.
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of all standard operating procedures, emergency procedures and plans and Job Hazard Analysis’;
- Provide assistance to fellow Trainers in other departments as required;
- Any other duties as required.
Role Requirements:
- Current unencumbered C Class Western Australian Drivers Licence;
- Minimum Certificate IV in Training & Assessment;
- Certificate IV in Work Health & safety (desirable);
- Senior First Aid qualification (desirable);
Skills and Experience
Work knowledge:
- At least five years mining production and/or Processing experience;
- Mining technology and heavy production equipment;
- Demonstrated experience in competency based training and assessment methods;
- Experience in incident investigation and reporting;
- Auditing or inspection experience;
- Experience with project work and time management;
- Thorough knowledge of the Work Health and Safety Act 2020 and Work Health and Safety (Mines) Regulations 2022
- Thorough knowledge of all relevant State and Federal legislation relevant to Mining Operations in Western Australia;
- Excellent understanding of applicable Health and Safety standards and codes of practice;
- Demonstrated high level of experience in the application of Health and Safety legislation relevant to mining practices.
Computer skills:
- Demonstrated skills in spread sheet and presentation applications, word processing and database applications;
- Competent with HSE related software (Cintellate, Chemalert, etc).
- Communication skills:
- Excellent communication, coaching and interpersonal skills including liaising with stakeholders and report writing;
- Ability to interact proactively with management and staff at all levels of the organisation in the resolution of Health and Safety issues.
