Our client is leading the charge in driving renewables forward in Australia, with a $13bn mammoth project in NSW. Offering state-of-the-art camp and facilities to support the FIFO lifestyle (2/1 roster), you will have all your recreational activities covered at camp. This project is culture focused, requiring cross-functional collaboration in ensuring this project is delivered on time, on budget in 2028.
As the Tunnel Site Engineer, you will have the following responsibilities:
- Verify that tunnelling and underground construction adhere to the latest IFC drawings, specifications, and relevant documents.
- Support effective supervision of underground works, encompassing TBM tunnelling, drill and blast operations.
- Collaborate with the Contractor in assessing actual ground conditions encountered during underground works, comparing them to baseline conditions in the GBR.
- Evaluate geohazards reported by the Contractor and, in collaboration with the Employer's GBR team, determine suitable methods for mitigating these hazards.
- Contribute to site data collection, ground classification, and reevaluation of the works.
- Conduct daily monitoring and assessment of underground conditions, assisted by a team of experienced geotechnical engineers and geologists.
- Ensure the quality of tunnel segment installation, verifying the use of approved materials and methods.
- Supervise the deposition of tunnel spoil at approved locations and monitor tunnel water inflows, treatment, and discharge.
- Provide guidance to ensure that inspections, tests, acceptances, and remedies align with the project's best interests and the latest design revision.
- Regularly review the Contractor's activities to identify performance deficiencies before delays or a decline in work quality occur.
- Evaluate and offer comments on the Contractor’s monthly reports, supporting the review of monthly claims as needed.
- Confirm that inspection and construction monitoring for underground works align with the Construction Management Plan.
- Monitor the on-site deployment of the Contractor’s resources (plant, equipment, personnel), verifying daily resource reports, especially those related to variations and day works.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
- Minimum 5 years experience working as a Tunnel Engineer on large scale hard-dollar infrastructure/civil projects.
- In-depth knowledge of drill and blast, NATM and TBM excavation techniques.
- Experience with tunnel construction in hard & soft rock conditions.
- Detailed knowledge of structural engineering and geology.
