About the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Communications specialist to join our newly created Urban Forest Team.  

As the Urban ForestEngagement Officer, you will be responsible for the delivery of all internal and external engagement on the promotion of Council's Urban Forest Strategy (UFS), with the emphasis on growing Woollahra’s Urban Tree Canopy. You will do this via a range of creative mediums including print, social media and face to face events. 

You will work collaboratively with a close-knit team of Horticultural and Arboricultural staff including the Urban Forest Project Manager and Technical Support Officer and you will also work with the broader Communications team to promote active engagement with the community.

This position is based out of our Alexandria Integrated Facility however this role will see you regularly attend to different sites around the Local Government Area as well as other Council offices including the Council Chambers in Double Bay.

Essential Criteria

  • Tertiary qualifications in Communications/Public Relations, Marketing or equivalent with proven customer engagement experience.
  • Highly proficient in the use of online engagement platforms (e.g. Engagement HQ, The Hive, Social Pinpoint) and monitoring and responding to community feedback.
  • Well-developed oral and written communication skills with the ability to effectively liaise, consult and communicate with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Advanced community engagement project management skills and experience.
  • Highly developed time management skills.
  • Proven experience in managing inclusive community engagement opportunities and evaluating and reporting engagement results to best inform complex project decisions.
  • Competency in all MS office applications including Word, Excel, Outlook and Publisher.
  • Current C Class Driver’s Licence.

 Desirable Criteria

  • IAP2 community engagement understanding/training and or accreditation.
  • Community facilitation and presentation experience with a broad range of engagement methods.
  • Arboriculture or horticultural knowledge and experience and/or willingness to learn.
  • An understanding of Local Government.
