About the role:
Peabody are currently seeking an experiencedVentilation Officer to join our Centurion underground mine, Our Centurion mine is located 160 kilometres west of Mackay. For more information on Centurion visit (centurionmine.com.au)
Reporting to the Technical Services Manager, you will be responsible for driving safety performance, while providing support and advice to the Centurion team on all facets of design, ventilation and gas monitoring.
Duties will include:
This is a statutory position and includes the following responsibilities
- All Statutory and Legislative requirements that fall under the Ventilation Officers role as per related legislation, regulation and guidelines
- Manage and organise the short, medium and long term ventilation requirements of the mine
- Prepare monthly ventilation reports
- Undertake ventilation changes as required
- Manage the day to day effectiveness of the mine ventilation
- Develop detailed safe work procedures as required
- Participate in safety investigations as required
- Demonstrate a detailed understanding of relevant costs and analyse to achieve optimal outcomes for the complex
- Identify significant variances from budgeted costs & escalate issues and solutions to the General Manager
- Ensure that assets are managed effectively to achieve budget utilisation rates
- Operational management of contractors used on site
- Develop and implement new initiatives and programs
About you:
- Drive a strong safety and risk management focus
- Ventilation Officers Qualification and at least 2 year's experience in an underground longwall coal mining environment.
- Mining Engineer Degree or equivalent
- Workplace Training and Assessing and G3 Risk Management Certificates desirable
- Knowledge of statutory requirements and understanding of health and safety legislation
- Knowledge of hazard management process
- Knowledge of gas characteristics as they relate to an underground coal mining operation
- Strong written and verbal communication skills along with the ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Experience using SAP/Vulcan is highly desirable
In addition to the above, you will have a genuine commitment to safety and demonstrate a sound understanding of risk and hazard identification. You will be an exceptional team member with a flexible attitude and sound work ethic.
