Ironbark No.1 is located within the Bowen Basin and offers an exciting opportunity to be part of a new mine development, join the team, and set the standards from the onset. We are looking for an energetic and experienced Ventilation Officer to join the team and develop a new mine.

About the role

Reporting to the Technical Services Manager, the Ventilation Officer will be responsible for the safe and effective management of the underground ventilation system at the mine, whilst in full compliance with the safety, production, budgetary and environmental objectives. 

Fitzroy Requirements – attitude is everything

The successful candidate will ideally have a minimum of 1-year experience working in a similar role within the underground mining industry.  In addition, the successful candidates experience would preferably include exposure to Development, Bord & Pillar (inc. place change) and Longwall mining. Gas drainage will also be required in the future mining footprint of the mine and knowledge of same would be desirable.  You will also have proven Supervisory experience.

This role must hold formal qualifications as a Ventilation Officer, with Deputy Certificate of Competency desirable. Proficiency with Ventsim, Safegas and Autocad software will be highly regarded.

The successful applicant will have a high level of reasoning and problem-solving skills with the ability to think quickly and act decisively under pressure.  Your superior interpersonal and communication skills, ability to work well under pressure, and manage a busy workload will see you well placed in this role. 

 Key Responsibilities of the role will include:

• Implement and maintain the ventilation system, inclusive of permitting.
• Ensure statutory compliance.
• Prepare strategic and operationally considered ventilation models in line with mine schedules.
• Manage changes to the ventilation network.
• Prepare ventilation budgets.
• Contractor management.
• Management of the tube bundle gas monitoring system.
• Management of the inertisation system.
• Develop and implement sealing management plans.
• Support the effective review and implementation of relevant SHMS documentation.
• Provide technical feedback to stakeholders, i.e. in the Permit to Mine process.

Fitzroy Operating Philosophy

• All Statutory and Legislative requirements that fall under the Ventilation Officers role as per related legislation, regulation and guidelines
• Manage and organise the short, medium- and long-term ventilation requirements of the mine
• Manage the day-to-day effectiveness of the mine ventilation
• Develop detailed safe work procedures as required including the updating and distributing ventilation and emergency escape plans
• Maintenance and calibration of service gas monitors
• Scheduling routine maintenance and service requirements for refuge chambers
• Assisting with fan performance testing
• Regular assistance with primary and secondary surveys
• Any other duty or responsibility as directed by the direct supervisor or upline management
