The RoleWe are offering a fantastic opportunity for a Ventilation Officer. Reporting to the Senior Ventilation Officer, you will be joining the department at an exciting time with a number of opportunities to learn new skills and assist in the development, delivery, evaluation and auditing of existing ventilation systems. This position works a Monday to Friday 5/2 4/3 roster residential in Mount Isa.  

The successful candidates will be responsible for:

• Manage the risk in relation to ventilation at George Fisher Mine by advising on appropriate measures and practices to be implemented.
• Advising on appropriate measures and practices to be implemented to ensure the ventilating air in a place where a person may be present at the mine is of a sufficient volume, velocity, and quality to maintain a healthy atmosphere.
• Managed airflow distribution through all operationally active areas of the mine.
• Pro-active delivery of safe and executable ventilation instructions.
• Responsible for the completion of vent surveys, air balances, adjustment of vent controls and fan management
• Responsible to complete all fault finding and monitor rectification activities.
• Assist the senior in updating Management Plans, Procedures, Guidelines, and Trigger Action Response Plans (TARP’S), Standard Work Instructions (SWI) with the latest systems, methods and processes used.
• All site mandatory and job-specific training is kept up to date.
• All departmental databases and KPI registries are maintained and kept up to date.

The requirements for this position are:

• A broad knowledge of underground mining operations and an ability to work both independently and within a team environment.
• At least 5 years’ experience in underground ventilation and refrigeration systems including at least two years’ exposure to underground metalliferous mining.
• Able to work in complex ventilation systems with a strong skill for trouble shooting & fault finding.
• The ability to work collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders, displaying strong communication and problem-solving skills.
• Have a willingness to identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities and take on new challenges and responsibilities.
• Knowledge of ventilation simulations using Ventsim.
• Ventilation Officer in an underground metalliferous mine in Queensland must meet these requirements (or be able to work towards attaining the below qualifications):

                 - RIIUND601D - Establish and maintain the ventilation management system.
                 - RIIUND603D - Manage, operate and maintain the mine ventilation system.
