We are welcoming applications for an experienced Venue Manager with proven leadership qualities to helm our exciting new venue located at Victoria Cross Station in North Sydney. 

Established in 2013, Mary's has grown from a single dive-bar burger joint in the back streets of Newtown, into a strong and exciting independent company spanning the entertainment and live music industry, retail and the original hospitality industry.

We have a deep passion for creating spaces and moments that enrich and empower people to explore, create and shape their world through art and music. By smashing world class food and music together we have been influential in not just reopening shuttered Live Music venues, but by pushing them to the forefront of culture in Sydney.

To continue to do this we need to find someone who is passionate about providing top quality service. Someone who loves natty wines, burgers, music that’s proud and bloody loud, and having a hell of a good time. The role requires someone with innovation and enthusiasm to build upon what we consider to be genuine local institutions. 

Operations

  • Develop and implement operating standards, policies, and procedures to be followed by the management team.
  • Maintain highest standards of food and beverage quality, guest service, cost control, and consistency in accordance with company's expectations.
  • Responsible for hiring, training, management, mentoring, counselling and evaluation of all members of the team.
  • Develop skills of the management team in accordance with the succession planning goals set by the company.
  • Lead and work with all departments to ensure that all parts of the business run efficiently and effectively.
  • Evaluate all relationships with outside partners, contractors, and vendors on a frequent basis.
  • Work closely in the development of the yearly budget; manage P&L and ensure managers’ report all variances on a timely basis.
  • Maintain frequent communication with the Executive Team and ensure they are aware of all major occurrences at the establishment.
  • Ensure inventory levels are maintained for facilitating proper restaurant operations, enforce strict inventory controls, and participate in monthly inventory reconciliations in conjunction with purchasing and finance teams.
  • Accurately forecast staffing needs to ensure optimum customer service.
  • Ensure overall presentation of the venue is of the highest order 
  • Oversees repairs and maintenance of the building consistent with schedule and/or requirements.

Marketing

  • Work closely with the sales and marketing department on short and long term planning that results in optimum recognition and maximum frequency of patronage for the venue
  • Research consumer markets and competitor's activities to identify opportunities and key issues.
  • Develop and improve offering based on a combination of market demands, brand vision and trend forecasting
  • Forecast costs and material requirements to feed into overall cashflow management for the business 
  • Lead discussions with marketing department to ensure end-to-end business promotions and activations are actioned to agreed timelines 
  • Evaluate the performance of the business marketing initiatives from a financial perspective (budgets, expenditures, ROI, profit-loss projections)

People & Culture 

  • Oversee and ensure that employee performance appraisals are completed in a timely manner
  • Create a work environment that promotes teamwork 
  • Deliver performance feedback, recognition & promote mutual respect 
  • Ensure employee satisfaction and minimise employee attrition 
  • Set standards and expectations through quality hiring, training and succession planning 

Job Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a restaurant or bar group
  • Possess a comprehensive set of F&B service and operations skills and a focus on customer service.
  • Enjoys problem solving and can think outside-the-box in difficult situations.
  • Team oriented approach to management with a mindset of open communications.
  • Capable of building and managing relationships with multiple departments, stakeholders as well as key customers.
  • Administration knowledge of F&B operations and proficient in Microsoft Office programs.
  • Have a well-groomed, professional appearance.
