SMBC is a major international bank with a leading position in the Loan Capital Markets / Syndications, Global Markets and Treasury, Corporate Banking, Project Finance, Financial Institutions and Sponsored / Leverage Finance markets. Working in conjunction with the Executive Director, the key responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to reviewing and approving proposals of credit, facility grading, and credit strategy especially for a portfolio of Project finance transactions, Corporate credit transactions, including problematic accounts, in the Oceania region. This may also include property finance and structured finance such as LBO, and securitization. You will also seek approval from the relevant authority in Head Office when required.
This position will be responsible for the following:
- Reviewing credit applications to ensure credit risks are identified and meet compliance requirements.
- Undertaking corporate and industrial research during the credit review process.
- Reviewing and assessing credit monitoring applications in order to monitor the credit standing of an obligor.
- Confirming Obligor/Facility Grade and Borrower’s category.
- Preparing reports for relevant government authorities.
- Prepare periodic reports such as newly approved large-scale credit, disapproved credit, joint deliberation credit, unsold credit, and credit cost calculation, etc.
- Answer queries from the Credit Department in Tokyo, Credit Review Department, external Audit and Regulators as required.
To succeed in this role, you will have:
- Experience in a credit approval, portfolio management or front office position with a bank or financial institution for leveraged finance, project finance and/or corporate and institutional clients.
- Experience working in a financial services organization.
- A solid understanding of financial statements, financial products and debt facility documentation.
- Comprehensive understanding of banking practices and processes of the role of the credit department within a bank.
- Strong understanding of credit processes within a bank and related administration.
- Strong time management and good organisational skills, with the ability to work on various matters at the same time.
- Influencing skills both in writing through presenting a persuasive argument and verbally when handling objections.
- Ability to condense complex issues into a readable format in report writing or through other communications.
