Job description

About us
The Magistrates' Court of Victoria (MCV) is a jurisdiction within the Court Services Victoria statutory authority, and has a long history of providing justice for the people of Victoria in metropolitan and regional courts across the state.
The Court determines in excess of 300,000 cases per annum at 51 venues, equating to approximately 90 per cent of all cases that come before Victorian courts each year. The Court aims to be an innovative, accessible and responsive court that provides quality services to the Victorian community. The Victims of Crime Assistance Tribunal (VOCAT) within MCV provides financial assistance to victims of crime committed in Victoria. VOCAT aims to assist victims of crime in their recovery by providing an accessible and empathetic service for those who require financial support.
About the role
Tribunal Officers have delegated powers to make final determinations of certain VOCAT applications. This involves reviewing applicant eligibility in line with legislation, taking into account relevant case law and using discretion to award financial assistance to victims of crime. Tribunal Officers will manage their own case load of applications with assistance from Administrative Deputy Registrars.
About you
This is a fantastic development opportunity for someone with a passion for working with victims and who has significant experience in VOCAT or a law degree, with relevant legal or administrative decision making experience. A legal, criminology or justice-related qualification will be highly regarded.
