We have a current opportunity for a VSOE (AS GVA) Solution Architect, on a contract basis within the Defence sector. The role is based in Symonston, ACT. The contract is for an initial 14 month period, with 2 x 12 month extension option.

DSS Skill Set: Level 3 - Systems & Software Engineering - Systems Architecture, Integration
The VSOE (AS GVA) Solution Architectwill be responsible for, but not limited to the following duties:
- Develop and execute a schedule of works delivering the first (and subsequent) iterations of the VSOE DEF(AUST) Standard,
- Plan and manage the delivery of the VSOE project technical tasks and outcomes,
- Assure fitness of purpose and safety of VSOE product line outputs,
- Design and document the VSOE Conformance Test process including the identification, development and employment of conformance tools and environments,
- Assist to develop the AS GVA architecture and model,
- Define technical tasks for AS GVA and VSOE technology investigations, including the evaluation of Commercial off the Shelf (COTS) and Modified/ Military off the Shelf (MOTS) design alternatives,
- Develop and maintain the VSOE High Level Design (HLD), Detailed Design (DD), and Interface Control Definition (ICD) documentation including Security requirements,
- Coordination across the VSOE team of technical experts and constituent products,
- Oversee engineering process/ conduct within the VSOE product line,
- Represent VSOE and LCS Design to industry, Defence, and international stakeholders under the LIF, and provide VSOE technical support and advice to the Subject Matter Experts,
- Advise on future technical development pathways,
- Exercise design authority,
- Conduct technical review and approval of engineering designs, documentation, investigation and trial reports,
- Identify and manage product or project risk,
- Support the broader LCS Design engineering processes,
- Engage with stakeholders to understand technology solutions and frame VSOE strategic direction and outcomes.
Minimum mandatory requirements:
- AGSVA Security clearance
- Min 8 years L3 industry experience in Software Engineering (Systems Architecture, Integration)
- Ability to satisfy the requirements of the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR)
- Experience developing and maintaining Linux standard operating environment (SOE) images and Linux-based operating system hardening, automating, scripting and virtualising.
- Bachelor degree (4 years or higher postgraduate) in a relevant engineering discipline (e.g. Software Engineering) suitable to achieve membership of the Institution of Engineers
- or Equivalent orBachelor degree (3 years or higher postgraduate) in IT/ Computer Science suitable to achieve technologist in the Institution of Engineers
- or Equivalent orExtensive experience (over 10 years) with design, build, and test functions of C4I Military Systems, Networks, and associated Software.
- Extensive experience (greater than 10 years) in integration engineering ideally with ICT oriented systems and include a detailed understanding of software development.
- Broad experience (greater than 10 years) in the design, implementation, support and administration (with RHEL) of Linux-based standard operating environments, preferably in a Defence environment.
- Experience in design and documentation development to Defence standards as well as build, implement and support of software products.
- Qualified RHCE or RHCSA.
- Experience with Azure DEVOPS and Azure Pipelines.
- Experience in computing, telecommunications including protocols, and data storage systems and standards.
- Understanding of the One Defence Capability System (ODCS).
- Providing strategic, high level advice to senior technical and executive staff on technical, design, & risk management items, (inc. escalation as appropriate).
- Experience in maintaining and operating engineering design and systems competence and operations.
- Knowledge of National WHS legislative requirements and Military Safety policies & standards including their applicability to Safety, Risk and Hazard management.
- Demonstrated evidence of working within, and leading, multi-discipline teams.
- Ability to establish and manage executable key technical and engineering artefacts.
Desirable requirements:
- Delivering within PRINCE 2, MSP, or P30 and AGILE process frameworks
- Defence engineering processes, preferably within the Land Domain
- Delivering within the ODCS environment.
- Safety critical software or systems development processes and practices
- Preparing high quality written reports and presentations relating to the program activities, including monthly status reports for program boards
- Use of Defence standards and processes
