Role: Wall and Floor Tiler
Position: Permanent Full-time
Establish in 2012, Opiela Tiling operates predominately in the Perth metropolitan area providing wall & floor tile laying and renovation services. It contracts directly to domestic customers, interior designers and builders.
Due to continuing, growth, our organisation is seeking experienced wall & floor tiler to fill in-house position to assist supervisors in the completion of our projects.
Job Responsibilities
- Follow blueprints precisely and mark and measure surfaces that need to be tiled to determine how to go about jobs
- Preparing Wall and floor surfaces by removing old tiles, grout and adhesive, filling holes and cracks, and cleaning surfaces
- Form tile beds using concrete, plaster, mastic, cement, glue or mortar utilizing tools such as screeds, brushes and trowels
- Spreading adhesive onto prepared surfaces and tiles, and setting tiles in position
- Cut tiles and shape them properly to ensure they fit around obstacles and in tight corners and odd spaces using power and hand tools
- Cut, install, polish and surface granite and marble and ensure accuracy during the installation process for lasting results
- Prepare various surfaces for tiling with waterproofing material or lath and by cleaning the surfaces properly
- Lay ceramic, clay, slate, marble and glass tiles on external and internal walls and floors to provide protective and decorative finishes
- Align tiles and straighten them with straightedges, levels and squares to ensure patterns are even and precise
- Tap tiles into place carefully using tools to properly adhere tiles to the base, making sure not to break or damage tiles
- Grout tiles, and cleaning and removing excess grout
- Create decorative Wall and floor designs by laying and setting mosaic tiles in kitchens, bathrooms and living rooms
- Use safe and appropriate means to access (both internal and external) for building and construction sites
- Follow appropriate safety practices when using ladders, other access ways, handrails, barriers, scaffolding and mechanical lifts (trained/licensed users only)
- Follow established policies and procedures for Protective Personal Apparel (PPE) use and the use or non-use of devices such as mobile phone in workplace and training environments
- Follow appropriate manual handling techniques for manual tasks including lifting and moving items
- Follow safety and environmental practices for handling building products, fluids and waste products

Qualifications / Experience Required
Minimum Certificate III level qualifications or equivalent with 2 years mandatory work experience in similar position. In the absence of formal qualifications, 3 years of work experience in similar position will suffice.
To be successful in the role we require that you are competent and confident in: Bathroom / balcony strip outs, waterproofing, screeding and grade requirements, tiling, sealing/ caulking and the removal and refitting of shower screens.
We also require you have your own vehicle, current driver’s licence and tools of the trade, plus the right to work permanently within Australia.
