The Mornington Shire Council is a Local Government Authority providing range of services to the twenty-three islands of the Wellesley Group located 125kms north-west of Burketown, 200kms west of Karumba and 444kms from Mount Isa, in the southern section of the Gulf of Carpentaria, residing within the State of Queensland. The island is 2.5 hours flight from Cairns.
Mornington island is the largest island of the group and the township of Gununa located on the southern end of the island, contains the Council’s officers and workshops, the community's primary services providers are also based here such as the local Schools, the Hospital and Aged Care, Emergency Services and other Government Agencies, Shopping and town also houses the majority of the Shire’s population.
The Role:
A great opportunity within our Warehouse Division for a Warehouse Store Person to join the team. Reporting directly to the Warehouse Manager, your duties will include but are not limited to:
- Participate in the day-to-day operations of operation of the Council Warehouse and its related activities and responsibilities as directed by your leaders.
- Participate in maintaining an accurate Inventory system using Council’s accounting software, DEAR.
- Receive and issue stock items according to demand, alerting leaders when stock is low.
- Participate in all regular (cyclic) stock takes to control loss and leakage of stock.
- Re-organize storage of items as necessary to achieve effectiveness and asset control.
- Ensure the security of Council’s assets to prevent loss of property.
- Liaise with stakeholders to maximize Council’s purchasing power.
- Develop a positive relationship with customers and other Council departments to ensure acceptable service delivery and promote the Council in a positive manner to the community.
About you:
- Knowledge and understanding of work activities, procedures and operational functions within a warehouse environment including stock control and inventory, ordering, purchasing and stock taking
- Sound knowledge of procedures and operational methods within a Stores environment including computer skills and data entry.
- Demonstrated skills in workplace Health and Safety activities with a strong proven safety focus.
- High level of organizational and time management skills to enable the incumbent to priorities and complete tasks within set timeframes.
- Relevant qualifications or an equivalent level of skills and experience obtained through previous appointments.
- Current Drivers Licence (Qld ‘C’)
- Current High-Risk Work Licence (Forklift) or capacity to obtain upon commencement
