RDA are currently expanding our Weld division and will be looking to onboard new Welders.
As a Welderwith Rheinmetall Defence Australia, you will be responsible for carrying out the welding and inspection tasks on our Boxer vehicles, components and prototypes in accordance with our quality and safety requirements. You will also be upskilled in this role to be qualified to work with armoured steel.
As a Welder, you can anticipate some of your day-to-day tasks to include:
- Conduct welding operations to build armoured steel welded assemblies in accordance with the Drawings, Quality Standards and Safety requirements;
- Observe proper guidelines for handling armoured steel, post weld heat treatment and checking of weld seams and dimensional accuracy;
- Perform examinations and tests of welded assembly dimensions in accordance with the requirements and planning as set by the welding engineer or welding quality supervisor;
- Execute welding instructions, welding sequence, work and procedural tests as specified in the production working method;
- Read and interpret technical drawings of welded assemblies to determine specifications, tolerances and required materials to carry out the welding task;
- Comply with the specifications of tests during and after welding for parameters and temperatures, weld seam preparation, root gouging, welding sequence, use and handling of filler metals, visual, dimensional and non-destructive tests; and
- Setup, operate and maintain various welding equipment and tools (eg. Welding torch, grinder, overhead hoist, cutter, measuring tools) in a safe and efficient manner.
About your new team
The RDA Welding department is a core part of the Production team and currently is a team of 7. Our Welders report to our Team Lead - Weld Shop and are a tight knit and supportive team. They form part of our greater Production team which is continuing to expand each month due to our continued increase in workload. This role will be based at our Military Vehicle Centre of Excellence in Redbank.

The experience and skillset best suited to this role includes:
- Certificate III in Engineering - Fabrication Trade or equivalent Welders trade qualifications;
- Minimum 3 year's experience working autonomously building welded steel assemblies in a manufacturing environment;
- Qualified with the use MIG and TIG welding systems including working with HS Steels;
- Strong understanding of complete welding fabrication of major assemblies;
- Ability to read and understand specifications, technical drawings, work instructions and test procedures of complex structural components and entire vehicles;
- Crane Operation High Risk Work Licence (desirable);
- Be able to travel interstate and internationally if need be for training (this will be a once off occasion); and
- The ability to gain and hold an Australia Defence Security Clearance (Australian Citizenship is needed as a minimum).
