The role:
This is a full-time on-site role for a Welding Supervisor at Shadbolt Group for long term shipbuilding projects. The Welding Supervisor will be responsible for the day-to-day tasks associated with welding operations. This includes supervisory skills, welding inspection, quality control and training, assisting production in fit-ups and welding monitoring associated with ISO 3834-2. The Welding Supervisor will also be responsible for coordinating with other departments to ensure the timely completion of the block consolidations in shipbuilding operations.
This role is based on a 49-hour week which includes overtime.
The key responsibilities of this role will include but are not limited to:
- Supervise welding processes, ensure correct fit up is achieve, and monitor that welding parameters are being followed.
- Plan and execute works in accordance with weekly plans to meet completion objectives.
- Provide expert advice and assistance to the welding teams.
- Develop and maintain documentation such as Weld maps, Welding, material, and consumable traceability.
- Progressive compliance monitoring.
- Ensure policies and procedures are adhered to.
- Advise on welding quality matters.
- Ensure that OQE is completed as the works is completing to allow inspections and sign offs to proceed.
- Coordinate the remedial works, OQE that assist with the close out of NCR's.
- Manage welding consumables and equipment.
- Conduct welder qualifications, weld testing/training and PQRs as required.
- Supervise weld repairs.
- Review and interpret NDT reports, tracings etc.
- Liaise and coordinate NDT activities associated with work fronts assigned.
About You:
You will bring the following skills and experience to the role:
- Supervisory skills and experience in managing a team.
- Minimum 3 years of Welding Supervisor experience in fabrication work.
- Minimum Certificate 10 (AS1796 & AS2214).
- Added inspection certifications such as CSWIP 3.1 / IIW qualifications desirable.
- Welding inspection and quality control skills.
- Past practical welding skills.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively liaise with other departments and clients to work through any issues and negotiate win/win outcomes.
- Attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.
- Previous experience with SMP fabrication or construction.
- Knowledge of Australian standards relating to structural steel, pipe and welding.
- Self-discipline and work ethic to operate efficiently within a team or autonomously.
