ABOUT THE ROLE
Part Time position (18 hours per week)
The Wellbeing Coordinatorwill join the AFL’s Mental Health and Wellbeing team, who strive for innovation in all areas of health, wellbeing and positive psychology.

Located in Darwin, this position will support wellbeing strategies at AFLNT and assist in the development of young male and female athletes in a high-performance sporting environment. The role is focused on providing individual support and guidance to help players to pursue good mental health and wellbeing, strive for a sport-life balance and build social capital.

The AFL Talent Pathway has a sustained passion for growing young people on and off the football field. This role works closely alongside coaching and administrative staff who uphold that responsibility in holistically developing players throughout their time in the AFLNT talent programs.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF
  • Facilitate the development and implementation of wellbeing strategies with players in the football environment
  • Collaborate with the NT Thunder talent team to integrate wellbeing programming into the football environment
  • Manage the delivery of our wellbeing curriculum for players
  • Attend training and matches (which may include team travel)
  • Provide individual support and guidance to drive players to pursue good mental health and wellbeing
  • Develop, guide and counsel players

OUR IDEAL TEAM MEMBER
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively liaise with diverse stakeholders, including: players, coaches, parents and other staff
  • Ability to engage young people whilst building trust and rapport
  • Understanding of processes pertaining to medical and allied health referral services
  • Flexibility in responding to the unique needs of AFLNT pathway players
  • Previous experience working with adolescents and topics related to social and emotional wellbeing
  • Understanding and experience with Safeguarding Children processes and practices
  • Demonstrated growth mindset and willingness to learn
  • Bachelor qualification in Psychology, Health, Education or related field
  • Mental Health First Aid Youth Certificate (or willingness to obtain)
  • ASSIST training (or willingness to obtain)
