About the roles

A Lead Inspector is a senior field-based position operating within an efficient, flexible and responsive state-wide team of inspectors. You'll support the Operations Manager by assisting with operational requirements and providing supervision, mentoring and coaching to inspectors in the field. As part of a multi-disciplinary team, Principal Inspectors with either a construction or industrial focus, work with industry to improve health and safety in Queensland workplaces. You'll implement the Best Practice Review of Workplace Health and Safety Queensland and ensure we meet the expectations of compliance and enforcement that the community expects of us as a regulator. Senior Inspectors also work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, have a construction or industrial focus, and work with industry to improve health and safety in Queensland workplaces. You'll contribute to the recommendations from the Best Practice Review of Workplace Health and Safety Queensland.

About the team

Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ) enforces work health and safety laws, investigates workplace fatalities, serious injuries, prosecutes breaches of legislation and educates employees and employers on their legal obligations. We're responsible for improving work health and safety in Queensland and helping reduce the risk of workers being killed or injured on the job.

Your key responsibilities

Specific responsibilities are outlined in the relevant position descriptions (attached below) for each role, but generally, you will have strong written, time management and stakeholder engagement and management skills. Experience in applying workplace health and safety protocols in community enforcement or other such regulatory enforcement would be highly regarded. These roles will challenge and develop your ability to engage with stakeholders, partner and educate the community in safety matters and ensure compliance within a regulatory framework. OIR is committed to supporting staff in their career with us through ongoing development. As an inspector, you will participate in the Inspector Careers and Capability program that we are continually developing to support inspectors to work with new and emerging hazards and risks. You will be part of the solution to keep Queenslander's safe at work and see the direct impact of your role in the community. As a Queensland public sector employee you will also have employment security and access to flexible work, health and wellbeing programs, competitive salary and superannuation and support for development.
