About your new role:
As the Women’s Health Nurse at Hunter Valley Community Health, you will provide individualised, case-managed client care and leadership within the community health setting. Your typical week includes travelling to at least two sites to facilitate a Women’s Health Clinic. Duties encompass cervical screening tests, breast examinations, advice on contraception, continence, and other women’s health issues, as well as postnatal checks. Additionally, you will review results, write support letters to GPs for further investigations or treatments, follow up with clients via phone calls, and organise education sessions.
If you are a Nurse Immuniser, you will have the opportunity to join the School-Based Immunisation Programme at HVCH. You will also provide education to local schools, TAFE, and community groups.
It is essential that you have completed the 'Statement of Attainment in Reproductive and Sexual Health' from Family Planning NSW, underscoring your expertise and commitment to women's health.
It is also essential for candidates to have a current Authority to Practise as a Registered Nurse (Division 1) with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), at least 3 years of post-registration experience and at least 12 months within the clinical area of Women’s Health.
Where you'll be working:
The Hunter Valley Community Health (HVCH) Women’s Health Service, based at Muswellbrook Community Health Centre, serves all women in the Upper Hunter region, including Muswellbrook, Scone, Denman, Merriwa, and Murrurundi. Staffed by a full-time Clinical Nurse Specialist 2, this service is responsible for both clinical and operational duties, including organising and managing the Women’s Health clinics. The service is supported by the Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) and the Women’s Health and Midwifery Network (WHAM).
Covering a large geographical area with reduced access to resources and female General Practitioners (GPs), the Women’s Health Service plays a crucial role in the community.
Muswellbrook, located in the rolling vineyards of the world-famous Hunter Valley wine country, offers incredible local produce, beautiful scenic drives, and art galleries featuring acclaimed national works. It is less than a three-hour drive from Sydney and under two hours from Newcastle, making it an accessible and attractive location to live and work.
About you:
- It is a requirement that the Nurse be Female.
- Completion or willingness to complete Grad Certificate in Sexual and Reproductive Health OR Grad Certificate in Women’s Health, would be desirable.
- You require effective communication skills providing information to clients, carers, Health staff, GP’s and NGO providers.

Rural Health Workforce Incentive Scheme:
This vacancy is eligible for an Attraction and Relocation package that includes the following*:
- Attraction incentive paid as a Rural and Regional fortnightly allowance of up to $10,000 in total for the first 12 months
- Retention incentive of up to $5,000 thereafter annually
- PLUS 3 months accommodation assistance (e.g. rent payments or payments for commercial accommodation)
*All payments and reimbursements made to part-time employees will be on a pro-rata basis.
Attraction incentives will be paid as a Rural and Regional fortnightly allowance on top of your base salary + 11% Superannuation.
Other forms of payment/package options (where you are eligible) need to be negotiated with the Convenor and may include**:
- Additional annual professional development days (up to 5 more per year)
- Additional personal leave (up to 5 more per year)
- Computer/internet reimbursement (e.g. laptop, wi-fi costs)
- Return airfare to and from your work base (or equivalent motor vehicle allowance) so you can still visit family and friends
**The total value of your incentive package would remain the same. Employees are responsible for seeking independent financial advice before accepting an Attraction and Retention Incentive package as part of their offer.
***Transferring of incentive packages will depend on the location, position, and time served by the health worker in their current position. Eligibility to transfer existing incentive packages will be determined and approved by the health organisation. Health workers who are receiving incentive packages and are changing or moving positions should discuss the impacts with their manager or local Workforce Rural Health Incentive Team via ***************@health.nsw.gov.au to discuss your eligibility prior to applying if you are already receiving an incentive package.
