Location Profile

Keysborough Secondary College is a multi-campus school with one campus in Keysborough (Acacia Campus) and one in Springvale South (Banksia Campus). Both campuses offer programs for students in years 7-12 with an organisational structure arranged around Junior and Senior sub-schools.

Enrolments in the College stand at around 2100 and are growing.  The College provides a broad range of VCE, VCE-VM and VET subjects for our students across the two campuses. The College also has a significant International Students Program with its own ELC.

Student achievement and engagement is generally above Like School groups and retention is high. Our student population is culturally and linguistically diverse and characterised by families of high SFOE as a result of which the college attracts significant Equity Funding. General Satisfaction with the College, as measured by the Parent Opinion Survey, is consistently high and in 2022 was 84%.

At Keysborough Secondary College we promote teaching and learning that is collaborative, technology rich, reflective, purposeful and personalised that prepares students for our rapidly changing world. Our pedagogical model - the Keysborough Learning Framework - is based on Dr Jane Pollock¿s GANAG lesson planning schema. We have a strong emphasis on teaching teams, whether those teams be across subjects within a year level (Years 7-9) or within a subject across year levels (Years 10 -12).

Keysborough Secondary College has undergone an extensive renewal program with the construction of two Junior Village neighbourhoods, a Senior Village neighbourhood, and a purpose-built STEM Centre on each Campus. Construction or refurbishment of a Food Technology, The Arts and Technology Centre on each campus has also been completed. The final stage has been completed for the new Administration Centre on the Banksia Campus and the refurbishment of the Music area at the Acacia Campus.

Role

This position is part time 0.8 and salary is consistent with VGSA2022 Education Support Level 1, Range 2 ranging from (EFT equivalent 1.0) $55,465 - $71,032 per year. The position is fixed term from 22/7/2024 - 20/12/2024.

The Wood Technology Technician is responsible for providing support to the Wood Technology teachers by ensuring a high quality of effective practical work. This role includes preparation of materials, maintenance of tools and equipment, and assisting teachers with demonstrations and practical projects.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this position will be:

Features of Work

  • Hands-on support for practical technology classes.
  • Management and organisation of stock, and equipment.
  • Participation in exhibitions and demonstrations.
  • Maintenance and repair of tools and machinery.
  • Compliance with health and safety policies.
  • File and manage students safe use of plant competency tests.
  • Collaboration with teaching staff and students.

  • Resource Management: Capability to provide input into resourcing materials and equipment.

  • Health and Safety Training: Completion or willingness to complete the Course in Safe Use of Machinery for Technology Teaching or suitable qualifications.

  • Attention to Detail: Accuracy in preparing materials and maintaining equipment.

Typical Duties

Specific Duties

  • Demonstrations: Prepare for and present practical demonstrations of processes to students when requested by teaching staff.
  • Budget Monitoring: Continuously monitor and report on budget spend to ensure maximum efficiency against department needs.
  • Drawing Preparation: Develop a knowledge and understanding of CAD/CAM programs and equipment to assist the teacher

General Duties

  • Material Preparation: Prepare materials for technology classes.
  • Stock Management: Maintain stock of materials, spare parts and components, and process orders.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Maintain machines, tools and equipment. Where needed liaise with Facilities Manager to organise services
  • Exhibitions: Assist in the organisation and layout of rooms.
  • Material Disposal: Dispose of, or reclaim, materials.
  • Project Support: Assist classroom teachers with practical projects.
  • Training Participation: Participate in training, other learning activities, and performance development as required.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other reasonable duties as determined by the Learning Area Leader or Principal Class Officers.

Maintenance

  • Tool Sharpening: Sharpen hand tools such as chisels, planes, and drill bits.
  • Repair: Repair simple machinery and organize CAM servicing.
  • Basic Carpentry: Perform basic carpentry tasks.
  • General Cleaning: Ensure general cleanliness of the workshop, classroom, and other technology areas.
  • General Repairs: Conduct general repairs to machinery and equipment as needed
