Community Enterprise Queensland (CEQ) is the leading supermarket chain in North Queensland communities. CEQ operates 30 outlets throughout North Queensland and are currently seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Workplace Health and Food Safety Coordinator to join our team here in Cairns fulltime. 

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Workplace Health and Food Safety Coordinator to join our CEQ remote retail store group. This is a fantastic opportunity for a motivated leader to oversee the Workplace Health and safety function and create a Food Safety culture across the organisation, ensuring compliance with regulations including federal, state and local government legislation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include (other duties may be assigned):
•Provide regulatory advice to CEQ and relevant stakeholders/partners on Workplace Health and Food Safety and hygiene matters.
•Maintain the Workplace Health and safety including food systems and procedures across the organisation.
•Develop and monitor Workplace Health and Food Safety programs which identifies and controls Workplace Health and Food Safety hazards including the handling of food across the business.
•Assist with return-to-work processes, programs, and liaising with all relevant parties as and when required.
•Incident management and reporting and monitoring Workplace Health and safety matters (including ticketing and licensing).
•Develop and monitor housekeeping, good food preparation practices and team personnel hygiene procedures to minimise Food Safety risks.
•Implement and perform Workplace Health and Food Safety audits and provide regular reports to management.
•Ensure the psychosocial component to the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 is managed, compliant and updated accordingly.
•Prepare Food Safety Programs and develop operational procedures and checklists.
•Provide advice to CEQ store managers relating to key Workplace Health and food business operational issues and risks including pest management, cleaning, sanitation, food delivery, food preparation, food storage, and record keeping.
•In partnership with the training team, identify nationally recognised Workplace Health and Food Safety training and ensure that adequate food handler trained team members are maintained across the organisation, including compliant record keeping to standard.
•Collaborate with team members, supervisors, and managers to develop a preventative approach and address any issues to support departmental compliance.
•Ensure the operations and specifications are compliant with regulatory bodies and frameworks – HACCP etc.
•Be a key point of contact in the organisation for local government and state government counterparts in foodborne illness outbreak investigations.
•Provide advice to CEQ and relevant stakeholders/partners on food labelling.
•Develop/identify and implement a Food Safety Quality Assurance Program.
•Monitor Workplace Health and Food Safety to ensure team members safety and a safe workplace.

 

What you’ll need to be considered

Essential

•Knowledge of and experience in the application of HACCP Food Safety principles.
•Sound written and oral communication skills including an interest in developing public speaking skills.
•Ability to work in a cross-cultural team environment.
•A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar role.
•An understanding of working in a resource limited environment.
•Computer literacy and knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Excel.

Essential Qualifications/Education and/or Experience/Licenses
•Tertiary qualification in Environmental Health.
•Current open ‘C’ Class Queensland driver’s license.

Desirable Qualifications
Workplace Health and Safety Officer Certificate.
Food Safety Auditor Accreditation.
Food Safety Supervisor Accreditation.
•Develop and implement a Food Safety program accreditation.
•Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
