Mimal Land Management Aboriginal Corporation is seeking a dedicated and dynamic Workshop Coordinator to join our team at Weemol Ranger Base, located in the heart of Arnhem Land, Northern Territory. You will play a critical role in running the workshop, whilst supporting and developing our motivated apprentices to develop and build capacity.

Mimal Land Management Aboriginal Corporation has been at the forefront of land management in Arnhem Land since the late 1990s. Our Indigenous Mimal Rangers have been instrumental in delivering fire, weed, and feral animal management projects across approximately 1.8 million hectares of land. We are committed to preserving and protecting our country through sustainable practices, guided by Indigenous knowledge and cultural protocols.

Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Workshop Team Leader/Mentor to join our team in Bulman Weemol. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in leading our workshop operations, providing mentorship to apprentices, and supporting the upskilling of Aboriginal individuals in light and heavy vehicle mechanics. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and oversee day-to-day workshop operations, ensuring efficiency and adherence to quality standards.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to apprentices, assisting them in completing their apprenticeships and achieving competency.
  • Deliver practical training and instruction in light and heavy vehicle mechanics, emphasising safety and best practices.
  • Conduct regular assessments and evaluations to monitor progress and identify areas for improvement.
  • Foster a positive and culturally sensitive learning environment for Aboriginal people, encouraging their skill development and confidence.
  • Collaborate with community leaders, stakeholders, and educational institutions to identify training needs and opportunities for growth.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations and organisational policies within the workshop.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Proven experience as a mechanic for light and heavy vehicles, with experience in a similar leadership role.
  • Muist either already be an Authorised Inspector to carry out vehicle inspections in the Northern Territory (NT), or capable of fullfilling the requirements to become an Authorised Inspector with no barriers.
  • Recognised qualification in automotive and/or diesel fitting.  
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and mentor others effectively.
  • Commitment to supporting Aboriginal people in skills development and employment within their community.
  • Understanding of the cultural context and challenges faced by Indigenous communities, particularly in remote areas.
  • Previous experience in mentoring, coaching, or training roles preferred.
  • Valid driver's licence and good driving record.
