We are currently seeking a Workshop Estimator to join the Industrials & Resources Team. Based in our Bennetts Green facility in Newcastle, and reporting to the Estimating Manager, this role is responsible for workshop estimating and planning, helping to ensure the Estimating Team undertake all operations in a safe, timely, efficient, and cost-effective manner.

About the Role

  • Receiving quotation requests from the Client and the submission of same.
  • Create Estimates for work packages by taking off quantities and measurements from drawings & photos, applying pre-determined rates, sourcing material & equipment prices from external suppliers.
  • Creating purchase requisitions for materials & equipment, as well as the creation of labour work packs for handover to Coordinators/Supervisors.
  • Prepare and evaluate tender documents for submission to Sub Contractors and Vendors for the supply of services
  • Liaise with suppliers to ensure fabrication items, procured items and hired plant is progressing and will be available for work pack when required.
  • Review and assess tenders, ensuring terms and conditions are in line with company policies and procedures along with assessment of risk and identification of activities that may or may not be shown in the tender documents
  • Ensure compliance with all UGL HSSE policies and procedures as well as any relevant legislative requirements

About You

  • Substantial Estimating experience preferably with relation to Fabrication of Piping, Pressure Vessels, Heat Exchangers, Retaining Equipment & Steelwork.
  • Experience in Microsoft Project.
  • A good working knowledge of Contract interpretation, Contract Rates application, Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Experience with SAP accounting systems (desirable but not essential)
  • Highly developed interpersonal, relationship management and conflict resolution skills, supporting your ability to effectively liaise, consult and influence a wide range of stakeholders
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written, including the ability to establish effective working relationships with a variety of people at different levels internally and externally
  • Methodical and demonstrated ability to work independently, with discretion, to organise and prioritise demands, and handle complex tasks simultaneously, within a fast-paced environment
