Howden Australia has an immediate need for an enthusiastic Workshop Repair Engineer to provide technical and engineering support to the Australian workshops in the service, repair and overhaul of Howden and other industrial products.These products include large fan and ventilation equipment, industrial compressors (screw, reciprocating and turbo type) & steam turbines.
Occasional travel to sites in Australia may be required, this role is Workshop based in Cardiff, New South Wales.

What needs to be done?
More specifically, your responsibilities will include:
- Reviewing workshop strip reports and determining SOW for repair
- Generating customer facing Inspection Reports detailing equipment condition and repair scope
- Generating repair scopes for sub-contractors for the repair of individual components
- Working with PBU’s (product business units) to obtain technical specifications and information for repair
- Developing and modifying repair procedures for components and machines
- Designing balance mandrels and adaptors for balance machines
- Designing workshop equipment and jigs as required
- Selecting & reviewing fits and tolerances for shafts & components
- Developing solutions for repairing various types of equipment
- Visiting contractor and customer sites for meetings and general inspections
- Developing & modifying procedures for repairs in the workshop conforming with WH&S requirements
- Assisting with development/modification of procedures required to operate equipment in the workshop
- Improving templates and documents used in the overhaul and repair process
- Producing ITP’s for repairs
- Developing QA acceptance criteria for repaired parts and report formats for customers
- Supporting Project Coordinator & Workshop Supervisor to meet quality requirements
- Undertaking quality checks of components when required
- Reviewing QC inspection reports and information from 3rd party suppliers
- Participating in acceptance testing and reviews at sub-contractors
It is essential that you are a degree qualified Mechanical Engineer or tradesman Fitter & Machinist with a Diploma in Engineering. You need to have experience in a similar role, with high levels of computer literacy and organizational skills.
You will be familiar with a mechanical workshop environment and the repair of rotating machinery. You will also be an excellent communicator with the ability to work independently and/or unsupervised.
