Workshop Supervisor - Geraldton Based

Red Dust Holdings (RDH) is a privately owned Civil Construction, Heavy Haulage and Mining Services operation (established in 2010) offering a range of civil and earthmoving solutions to an extensive client base throughout Regional Western Australia.

We are looking for an experienced Workshop Supervisor to join our team on a full time basis, based out of our Geraldton Workshop. You will be home every night. No away work. 

As the Workshop Supervisor, you will lead and direct the Workshop team to carry out scheduled servicing and completing general maintenance and repairs to our fleet of Heavy Earthmoving Machinery, Road Trains, Trucks, Trailers and LV’s. 

About the role:

  • Oversee and advise a team of mechanics, apprentices and trade assistants 
  • Coach, lead and mentor mechanics and apprentices
  • Schedule preventative maintenance and servicing along with breakdowns. 
  • Overseeing the smooth running of the service department
  • Utilise skills and knowledge to diagnose problems with a range of vehicles
  • Work to meet operational targets
  • Be supported by your leading hands and Asset Coordinator.
  • Lead and support the Stores department 

Supervision of Workshop Operations: You would oversee the day-to-day activities in the workshop, ensuring that everything runs efficiently and according to schedule. This might include managing workflow, assigning tasks to workers, and coordinating with other departments to meet project deadlines.

Quality Control: Ensuring that the work carried out in the workshop meets quality standards is crucial. You would implement and enforce quality control measures to guarantee that products or components produced in the workshop meet specifications and comply with relevant regulations

Safety Compliance: Safety is paramount in the construction industry. You'd need to ensure that all workshop activities adhere to safety regulations and protocols. This involves conducting regular safety inspections, providing training to workers on safety procedures, and addressing any safety concerns promptly

Team Leadership: Leading and motivating your team of workshop staff is essential for productivity and morale. You would provide guidance, support, and feedback to your team members, fostering a positive working environment and promoting teamwork

Problem Solving: Construction projects often encounter unexpected challenges. As a Workshop Supervisor, you'd be tasked with identifying and resolving any issues that arise in the workshop promptly. This requires strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically under pressure

Communication: Effective communication is key to success in any supervisory role. You'd need to liaise with project managers to coordinate activities, communicate project requirements and priorities, and provide progress updates.

Documentation and Reporting: Keeping accurate records of workshop activities, including production reports, inventory levels, and safety documentation, is essential. You'd be responsible for generating reports and providing regular updates to higher management.

By effectively managing workshop operations and ensuring that work is carried out safely and to the required standards, you play a crucial role in the overall success of civil construction projects.

The successful applicants will have:

  • Relevant Trade Certificates - Engineering Tradesperson (Automotive) Heavy Vehicle Road Transport / Earthmoving (or similar)
  • Experience as a Workshop supervisor, leading hand or similar. 
  • Ability to be hands-on, proactive and lead effectively in a team environment
  • Effective time management and attention to detail with a strong planning and cost control focus
  • Sound communication skills
  • You must be able to work under pressure with a view to meeting deadlines
  • Good understanding of OHS in a busy mechanical workshop 
  • Previous experience working on heavy trucks and construction equipment
  • Heavy Vehicle drivers license (HR at minimum, MC preferred not essential)
