Opera Australia requires a producer to help support and realise a new Young Artist Program for 2025. Young Artists bring a contemporary approach to the presentation and performance of opera in Australia. Providing professional development and performance pathways for some of the finest young performers in the country is central to OA’s mission to nurture and support new talent.
This position will work closely with the Artistic Director and Head of Music in all producing matters pertaining to auditions, casting, scheduling, programming of masterclasses, budgeting and liaison with international opera companies for an international study program.
The producer will support access for Australian or New Zealand singers to practical training opportunities, specialist coaching and audition guidance that will help and support them to take their first steps at the Sydney Opera House and offer career building performance opportunities on both the national and international stage.
About the role
The Young Artist Program Producer will assist with the search and auditions for 6-8 new Young Artists for the 2025 program. They will be involved in the initial setting up of national auditions and applications for the new course. Additionally, they will be required to schedule the training of young singers; including masterclasses, music coachings, singing lessons, drama and movement coachings, acting lessons, stage-fighting, score-reading/marking, performance psychology, language coaching, vocal massage, and nutrition/ health and fitness advice.
Requirements:
- Highly developed scheduling skills.
- Demonstrated budget and contract management experience.
- Self-motivated with strong interpersonal skills.
- High level verbal & written communication skills.
- Demonstrated high level problem solving and initiative.
- Leadership and management skills with proven experience and ability to motivate.
- An empathy and passion for the artistic process and an intuitive understanding of the needs of Young Artists and creatives.
- Good computer literacy and database experience
- Strong knowledge of MS Office applications
- Exceptional budgeting skills
We anticipate the role would initially be a 2-year position.
