Kurbingui Youth & Family Development is a not-for-profit Aboriginal community-controlled organisation. 

Established in 2001, we have continued to grow in the number of services delivered to the community in areas such as employment and training, family support, domestic and Family violence, alcohol and substance abuse, cultural education and engagement, support targeting successful educational outcomes for families and children and young people from preschool to tertiary, recreation and sports, early years, youth, women and men, cultural group activities, social, emotional well-being - suicide prevention, crisis response and treatment and health and nutrition.

Yur'iinkin (Intensive Bail Initiative) -

The purpose of the  Yur'iinkin (Intensive Bail Initiative) Program is about reconnecting young people and healing young peoples’ connections to themselves and others. The initiative responds to the needs of young people who are “at risk” of entering into or involved in the Youth Justice System including those young people who are repeat / recidivist offenders with complex needs, to provide support to them and their kin and/or family members and where possible to reconnect through collaborative case management, diversionary programs and tailored activities . Support is also available to young people in contact with the Queensland Police Service / Youth Justice Co-Responder Team (CRT) through the Youth Engagement Practitioners, a component of the Yur'iinkin Program.

The role

The Youth and Family Engagement Practitioners provide support and advocacy to young people to address issues influencing their offending behaviour, complete conditions of Bail and other Orders and reconnecting with their own culture/identity/kin/ and or family members.  The role provides practical, mainly outreach, support to young people in line with their identified case plan and in consultation with Key Stakeholders e.g. Youth Justice, Police, Employment/Training, Health and other Community Services.

The Youth and Family Engagement Practitioners are required to work on a rotating shift roster including some evenings and weekends.

Requirements:

ESSENTIAL 

  • Experience supporting Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander and non-Indigenous Young People.
  • Qualifications and/or equivalent professional experience in Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, Behavioural Science, Social Science, Health, Youth Work, Community Services or relevant field.
  • An extensive understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures and protocols and the issues which impact upon them in contemporary society.
  • Demonstrated experience in bail support and crisis response, specifically with young people, including complex trauma-based behaviour management, case management and referral pathways.
  • Knowledge of or ability to rapidly acquire technical understanding of relevant legislation and regulations; specifically Youth Justice and Child Safety.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide appropriate information on a range of services and referral pathways available for young people and families specific to their circumstances. Including accommodation, counselling, family support, legal, education, employment, drugs and alcohol.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively plan, organise and coordinate own workload.
  • Effective communication, administration, database entry and report-writing skills.

DESIRABLE

  • Knowledge of local community protocols and established community connections within the Moreton Bay geographical catchments
  • Experience in collaborative program arrangements with relevant agencies, other service providers, and key stakeholders.
  • Facilitation skills or willingness to develop these skills through formal and informal training
