About the role and the services
Colville Place provides short-term accommodation for young people aged between 12 and 15 years who may not have a safe place to stay. The primary focus is on reuniting young people with family wherever possible, engaging or re-engaging with education and, where family reunification is not possible, transitioning to appropriate medium-to-longer-term accommodation.
Mara House provides short term accommodation for young women who may not have a safe place to stay, and aims to support with the development of confidence, community connection, health and wellbeing and individual capacity, to ultimately become independent of the housing and homelessness system.

During a young person’s time with Colony 47 they can focus on their goals, so they can reach their potential. Youth Housing Workers promote a nurturing and trusting environment within a 24-hour service; provide essential skills, knowledge and support to assist young people to build their life skills; promote healthy relationships; develop emotional resilience and enhance interpersonal skills.
This is a Part-Time position of around 21 hours per week, fixed term until April 2025. Shifts involve evening and overnight (sleepover) work on a rotational roster.
In the role of Youth Housing Worker you will:
- Perform intake, assessment and case management in collaboration with other Colony 47 and external services
- Support the identification and achievement of young people’s goals.
- Foster a focus on health and wellbeing, enable the development of daily living skills of the young people and guide them in the planning, preparation and production of nutritional meals.
- Support the establishment of positive re-connections with young person’s family, social networks and significant people in their lives.
- Support residents to engage with education, training and employment opportunities.
To be successful in the role, you will possess:
- Experience delivering youth accommodation support and/or residential services within the community services sector
- Highly advanced interpersonal skills including assessment, conflict resolution, negotiation, liaison, motivational and advocacy skills
- Experience working with young people with challenging behaviours and a demonstrated ability to respond effectively within a restorative justice framework
- Highly developed self-awareness and the ability to effectively manage own emotions when faced with challenging situations
- Demonstrated ability and extensive experience in exercising initiative, discretion and professional judgement
