ABOUT THE ROLE

This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team in a challenging but rewarding role as a Youth Justice Officer.

The Youth Justice Services Branch is responsible for the safety, security and rehabilitation of young people both in the community and custody. Youth Justice Services’ core objective is to reduce reoffending among young people through programs and services for young people on orders in the community and programs and services in custody; services to divert young people away from the criminal justice system.

Under supervision, the Youth Justice Officer manages the case coordination of young people who have offended and are subject to community supervision orders, as well as case coordination of young people on Detention Orders and as required, the case coordination of young people on Juvenile Justice Team and Court Conferencing referrals, the provision and submission of accurate and timely court reports (including representing the Department in Court).  This includes case supervision of young people identified as “at risk” to reduce reoffending, protect the community and direct young people away from crime and/or antisocial behaviour and often requires assisting in locating responsible adults to arrange bail and undertaking welfare checks of young people in Western Australia Police facilities.

The Youth Justice Officer is responsible for providing services for young people that are in alignment with the provisions contained in the Young Offenders Act 1994.

ELIGIBILITY

  • All employees are required to undergo employment screening, which includes a National Criminal History Check and other checks that may be relevant to the position requirements.
  • Applicants must have a current Working with Children Check or be able to successfully apply for one to be eligible for appointment to this position.
  • Applicants must possess a valid C Class Drivers Licence and ability to drive a 4WD motor vehicle.
  • Special requirement of the position includes Regular Intrastate Travel.
