Youth Support and Advocacy Worker in our Homelessness and Outreach Support Team - Gold Coast Zero

Are you passionate about working with young people who are experiencing homelessness/ 

This position will be part of a team that delivery Assertive Outreach strategies and delivery at GCYS, working in close collaboration with a number of service providers through the GC Zero including stakeholders and supports within the wider community.

This position directs and delivers assertive and persistent outreach to identify, engage, and work with young people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, to achieve sustainable outcomes.

GCYS is a leader in Youth Services in the Gold Coast area, and our youth programs are expanding. Our integrated approach is designed to deliver better outcomes for our clients. About the job
Role location: Miami and across the Gold Coast
Role type: Permanent full-time till June 2025 (option to extend dependent on funding)
Pay range: SCHADS level 5 based on experience and with salary sacrificing available.

You will need to demonstrate:   

  1. Understanding of and commitment to GCYS vision, objectives and practice framework
  2. Experience of outreach with vulnerable young people from diverse backgrounds, and the ability to build trusting and positive relationships to deliver solution-focused crisis and early interventions
  3. Highly developed skills in holistic assessments of a young person with complex needs, including risk assessments and safety planning
  4. Ability to deescalate crisis situations.
  5. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage with the GC Homelessness Network; and the ability to advocate effectively on behalf of young people
  6. Ability to provide effective practice leadership to outreach workers and undertake risk assessments and safety planning
  7. Strong organisational and planning skills and the demonstrated ability to work independently and prioritise and manage competing demands

About you
You will need to have a minimum of 3 years' experience working with young people, and an understanding of the challenges and barriers that young people experiencing homelessness face.

You will be proactive in a reactive environment and to remain calm under pressure. 

You will enjoy being part of a team that likes to generate creative and innovative solutions.

You will have the ability to work independently and recognise and anticipate the barriers that young people face and be ready to jump into action to provide practical support to help young people get back on track and take a planned and purposeful approach in all the support you provide. 

We are looking for someone who is able to engage with young people from a range of backgrounds including a history of complex trauma. You will be able to build productive working relationships with a network of other professionals and stakeholders – you know that you can’t do it alone and the value the input of others.
