Youth Support Worker - crisis accommodation. Residential.
Located in central Mandurah
Reports to the Manager
Purpose of roleThe Youth Support Worker will provide a safe and supportive environment to young people who are at risk of homelessness or are currently experiencing homelessness, consistent with the Vision and Mission statement.Key Objections- To provide safe and secure crisis and transitional accommodation and other related support services to young people.
- To ensure young people are safe and supported to increase their knowledge and confidence to reduce the likelihood of future homelessness.
- To support young people towards more independent living by empowering them with valuable life skills, knowledge and confidence.
- Assist in restoring family relationships where possible
- To ensure client outcomes are optimized through the services participated in local coordinated interagency responses.
- Complete assessment and intakes for clients as per agency Policy & Procedures and Service Standards.
- Develop support plans for clients as required in the Case Management Program and assist them in their development of general life and living skills including recreational and other activities.
- Work with clients to achieve the realistic goals of their support plan and ensure they have input into the development of these plans.
- Make appropriate referrals and accompany clients to access community services as required.
- Plan and attend with clients on recreational and other activities as arranged by the agency.
- Report to the Manager and the Case Manager any changes observed in the client or issues relating to case management of the client.
- Work to and gain an understanding of agencies Policies, Procedures, Protocols and Guidelines relating to client support and other operational directives as communicated through staff meetings/minutes, memos, emails and phone calls.
- Under common law an employee has a ‘duty of care’ towards their employer. This means an employee should not do things, or fail to do things which could harm or work against the employer or the agency’s staff or residents.
- The Youth Support Worker will be required to access the internet and to receive emails concerning rosters and professional development material from their private residence. Further the Youth Support Worker will be required to be contacted by mobile phone for ease of contact when necessary by the agency.
- Assist with the maintenance of Calvary records, client records, incident reports, hazard & maintenance reports and statistics using SHP data collection platform.
- Assist in the domestic duties by keeping the accommodation service and office areas clean, tidy and safe. This includes, dishes, washing linen and other household duties.
- Attend to day/night shift requirements as per Agency ‘Daily Routine’ guidelines and checklists.
- Attend monthly staff meetings, training & planning sessions, personal development and team building activities as identified by the agency.
- Fulfill other duties as required by management and other department personnel as requested/required.

- Minimum level qualification Cert lV Youth Work or Community Services.
- Working with Children’s Check
- Police Clearance
- First Aid Certificate
- WA Motor vehicle driving license.
Experience
- Experience working with young people at risk aged 15-25 years.
- Knowledge of working under Child Safe Organisation Principles, Trauma Informed Care and Practice Principles and Client Focus Approach.
Knowledge
- A thorough understanding of issues around homelessness.
- Knowledge of and a commitment to working with young people who are at risk of homelessness or currently experiencing homelessness.
- Extensive case management experience.
- Knowledge of and a commitment to working with a diverse group of young people – CALD, Indigenous, LGBTQI+.
- Understanding of responsibilities and compliance in relevant legislations.
- Knowledge of relevant community resources.
- Professional approach.
