About Us?
The Institute for Urban Indigenous Health Ltd was established by its founding members to provide a coordinated/integrated approach to the planning, development and delivery of comprehensive primary health care services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations within the Southeast Qld Region.
IUIH established the Moreton Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Health Service (MATSICHS) in 2011 as a strategic response to the significant growth and geographic dispersion of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the Moreton Bay area.
About the Role?
As a Youth Wellbeing Worker, you will provide culturally sensitive and trauma-informed support and advocacy services to vulnerable young Indigenous people between the ages of 8 to 25 years of age. You will play a significant role in improving youth access to comprehensive primary health care services across the service area, with specific emphasis on improving youth access to comprehensive primary health care services. As a Youth Wellbeing Worker, you will based at our Morayfield office, however will be required to provide services across various Clinic sites including Caboolture, Deception Bay, Margate, and Strathpine.
Your responsibilities will include:
- One on one support, mentoring and advocacy for young people between the ages of 08 to 25 years of age.
- Supporting young Indigenous people in engaging with MATSICHS services, including medical care and specialised services, such as care coordination, social and emotional wellbeing support, as well as allied health.
- Facilitate young people’s access through referral, advocacy and linkages to appropriate agency and support networks as necessary to help address social, financial, legal, educational, and vocational challenges.
- Delivery of health and social and emotional wellbeing information in community-based groups.
- Liaise and develop relationships with external services and agencies to collaboratively address the needs of young people in the region.
- About You?
- Current C Class Drivers Licence (QLD)
- Current Blue (Required prior to commencement)
- Criminal History Check (Willingness to obtain one)
- Certificate III in Youth Work/Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health, or related field
- Demonstrated experience working with vulnerable young people aged 08 to 25 years old
- Demonstrated understanding of the health issues in Aboriginal Communities
- Willingness to travel within the Moreton Bay region.
Desirable, but not mandatory:
- Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and /or communities.
