Barnardos are looking for a part time permanent Community Development Officer for the Our Place Youth Foyer Program based in Downer, ACT.
This is a part time role 21hrs a week.
The Community Development Officer will be responsible for;
- Assessing residents’ skills, capabilities and non-vocational barriers. Promote the programs services and the Agency throughout the region. Support the development and delivery of living skills and learning programs for residents.
- Coordinating and facilitating the provision of the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme within Our Place Youth Foyer for the young residents and ensure all necessary guidelines are followed for Our Place Youth Foyer to remain as an DOE Award Centre.
- Facilitating and assist development through partnerships to develop viable project plans for new activities, programs and events, as identified in the social plan.
- Developing and scoping viable programs with other community-based groups that reflect community assets and priorities.
- Develop and deliver activities in the youth homelessness programs community facilities for young people supported by the service.
About You
As a Community Development Officer, you will ideally have;
- In-depth knowledge of the ACT community sector.
- Prior experience in working with youth.
- Knowledge of the Youth homelessness community trends.
- Significant proven experience working with community groups and organisations.
- An understanding of community development models especially asset-based community development (ABCD).
- Exceptional interpersonal and engagement skills, including negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours, to meet the needs of the program as required.
- Driver’s license.

Salary: Base $71,136 to $82,054 pro rata per annum plus leave loading plus superannuation. Packaging available to receive $15,860 of your salary tax free. Motor vehicle packaging available on selected roles.
To be considered for roles with Barnardos you will need to have (or be willing to have conducted) a National Police Clearance and current Working with Children check Clearance (or APP number) and for the ACT a Drivers History Check, Working with Vulnerable People Card and CYPS Check.
