The Role:
As a Therapeutic Youth Worker at MacKillop, you will play a vital and rewarding role in delivering high-quality therapeutic support to vulnerable children and young people. You will be responsible for addressing their emotional, social, and behavioural needs within their home and the community. Working closely with the House Manager, Coordinator, Case Worker, Therapeutic Specialist, and other dedicated MacKillop professionals, you will provide therapeutic care to support young people on their healing journey.
This role primarily focuses on supporting young people with high and complex needs who cannot be accommodated in foster care. These young people often face challenges related to mental health, disability, emotional wellbeing, and behaviour, which may present risks to themselves and others around them.
Position Details:
- Classification: SCHCADS Level 3 ($36 - $38.60 ph) – dependent on qualifications & experience
- Employment Type: Permanent Full-time, Part-time, and Casual opportunities available
- Hours: Morning, Day, Afternoon, Evenings, Sleepovers and Active nights
- Location: Canberra Region, ACT
- Reporting to: House Supervisor
About You:
To thrive in this role, we are looking for individuals who possess the following qualities:
- Experience working with vulnerable children and young people
- Experience working with young people in a trauma environment
- Motivation, passion, and resilience to work with Young People
- Ability to work in a face-paced environment and think on your feet
- Availability to work a variety of shifts including sleepovers and active nights
- Positive and friendly attitude
- Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
Requirements:
To be eligible for this role, you must possess:
- Diploma qualification in relevant industry preferred
- Minimum qualification Cert IV in relevant industry
- Valid and current Driver's License
- Satisfactory Criminal History Check (paid for by MacKillop)
- Valid Employee Working with Vulnerable People Check
- Valid and current NDIS Workers Screening Check (MacKillop can assist successful candidates with their application)
Key Selection Criteria:
To excel in this role, you should possess the following:
- Proven ability to work therapeutically with young people facing social, emotional, and behavioural difficulties
- Ability to work with those who have experienced significant trauma and adversity.
- Track record of following case plans, behaviour support plans, and safety plans for young people with complex needs, including challenging behaviour.
